Welcome to the Skate Workshops in The Lab @ TSU Recreational Center, a space created exclusively for skaters to enhance their skills, progress, and cultivate elite talent. Located at the University Museum in Texas Southern University, our workshops offer a unique opportunity for skaters to learn from the best in Houston. To ensure a hassle-free experience, we recommend parking in Lot A-B on Cleburne Street near the TSU Post Office. This parking lot is conveniently labeled as Lot A and offers free parking for all attendees. Please avoid parking in reserved or handicap spaces without the appropriate placard. Additional parking is available in the adjacent Lot B. Unfortunately, we are no longer able to accommodate kids at the TSU Rec Center due to liability reasons. However, we do have kid-friendly lessons available at the YMCA. For more information, kindly reach out to us directly. During the workshops, we offer a variety of classes catering to different skill levels. Our Levels 0-1/Super Beginners class is perfect for first-timers and beginners who require more hands-on assistance. Our experienced instructors will teach you the basics, including falling, standing up, moving forward, and turning around. If you're a comfortable roller looking to learn new moves, our Levels 1-2/Beginner & Intermediate class is ideal for you. From transitions and dipping to spinning and dribbling, we cover it all. Advanced skaters can also join to sharpen their skills with moves like skating backward, jumping, and crazy legs. For those interested in specific moves and skate styles, our All Levels/Specialty Classes are tailor-made. Learn spins, downtown variations, ballroom partner skating, snapping, JB, fast backwards, trains, trios, and more. After the classes, you have the opportunity to practice what you've learned during our Open Skate Practice session. If you've registered for a class, this session is free.
