The arrival of AI has become a global reality, such that nations are preparing to create the right conditions so that they are not left behind. Some are ahead of the game while others are lagging behind. The fact remains AI is here and it will continue to enter every aspect of life from the way we communicate to how we run the world.

In Canada and other places, rapid innovations, coupled by the current global economic uncertainties and AI automation will likely result in job loss or create limited entry-level jobs for new graduates from universities and colleges, thereby creating fear and anxiety within the young workforce.
Evidence-based information from diverse credible sources tells a story of disparity within minority groups and the challenges to enter, grow and thrive in the digital economy. For example, Black and Indigenous populations, already in the lower economic bracket, are less likely to enter into occupations for which they are qualified. This has led to a higher unemployment rate. It can also be surmised that these inequities may have led to mental health issues, as indicated below. (

According to Canadian Mental Health Association, there are many factors that affect our mental health, including income, lack of social support, housing, conducive working environment. In any given year, 1 in 5 persons in Canada will personally experience a mental health problem or illness in Canada.

1. How does Canada build an inclusive and sustainable workforce that is empowered with the right knowledge, skill sets and with effective support systems, ready and able to compete in the future economy such as Ai?
2. What support systems, investments and strategies are needed for underrepresented groups (e.g., Women, Black and Indigenous peoples, and other marginalized groups) to enter, grow and thrive in the future economy, including tech entrepreneurships, STEM, tech-enabled businesses and emerging technologies such as AI? Including for the jobs that society doesn't have clue yet in 5 to 10 years?
3. In a world increasingly shaped by protectionism, global tensions, trade war (e.g. tariffs), what support systems are required to prevent and address mental health issues in order to ensure Canada has a productive and competitive workforce?
