Jacobin Monastery (Couvent des Jacobins)
The monastery's most famous architectural feature is its unique "palm tree dome": a central stone column branches upwards, giving way to multiple arches that extend outwards like a palm tree, considered a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Built entirely of red brick, it reflects the urban style of Toulouse, the "City of Roses."
Upon entering the Jacobin Monastery, a section of the core area requires a ticket and represents the most quintessential, historically, and artistically valuable part of the monastery.
1️⃣ Main Chapel (Église des Jacobins) This is the most important space in the paid area.
Here, you can admire the famous "palm tree dome" up close: the central stone column branches upwards, supporting the dome like a palm tree, a pinnacle of Gothic architecture in southern France. The chapel space is soaring, simple, and solemn, with light streaming in through the high windows, creating a truly breathtaking effect.
2️⃣ The Shrine of St. Thomas Aquinas
The shrine houses the remains of **Saint Thomas d’Aquin**.
The shrine itself possesses multiple values—religious, historical, and artistic—and is an important symbol of medieval theological history.
This section is particularly important for those interested in the history of Christian thought, philosophy, or theology.
