Trance Mediumship is also similar to channeling.  Entering a meditative state and allowing your guides or other spirit people to come through quite fully and first person.  It is a powerful and moving experience and there is plenty of healing that occurs in the environment for all.  
Mediumship is the art of allowing the discarnate world and other realms of higher beings to make contact here on the physical plane through your own body or mind.  It is a natural human faculty for many and can be developed.  Tony Stockwell is one of the world's true masters at mediumship as well as trance.
