Російська імперія, а згодом СРСР, не лише переслідували його за вільнодумство, а й зумисно привласнили його ім’я та спадщину.
Фільм «Малевич» — це історія боротьби художника за право бути собою в тоталітарній системі, що нищила все інакше. Через архівні свідчення, унікальні щоденники і художні реконструкції, стрічка занурює глядача у складні 1930-ті роки: часи репресій, цензури й Голодомору, що навис тінню і над життям митця.
Це не лише мистецька драма, а й потужна культурна та історична реабілітація: фільм доводить, що Малевич — не російський, а український художник, якого світ має побачити в правдивому світлі.

Synopsis :
Kazymyr Malevych — a trailblazing artist who created the revolutionary “Black Square” and founded Suprematism — is still often mistakenly regarded as a Russian painter. In reality, he was born on Ukrainian land, thought in Ukrainian, and it was Ukraine that became the fertile ground for his creative breakthrough. The Russian Empire, and later the USSR, not only persecuted him for his free-thinking spirit but also deliberately appropriated his name and legacy.
MALEVYCH
 is a powerful story of one artist’s fight to remain true to himself within a totalitarian system that sought to erase all dissent. Through archival evidence, rare diaries, and cinematic reenactments, the film immerses viewers in the turbulent 1930s — a time of repression, censorship, and the Holodomor famine, which cast its shadow over Malevych’s life.
More than an artistic drama, this is a bold act of cultural and historical reclamation: the film firmly reestablishes that Malevych was not Russian, but Ukrainian — and it’s time the world saw him in his true light.
