We Are The Banned is a live literary event series that invites readers to share short, meaningful passages from their favorite published books. More than just a reading, it’s an oratorical experience. One where participants express not only the written words, but also why those words matter. In the book Fahrenheit 451, when books become outlawed a small group of people memorized certain books to preserve them. This is the embodiment of what this event is. Providing oral alternatives to books that may not always be available. We Are The Banned operates with the knowing that if books are ultimately removed or erased, then we must become those books to preserve that knowledge and art of thought. We Are The Banned refers to the recognition that if the books are banned, then so are we.
