Join us for this year’s Queen City Marathon author talk. People often start running to get healthier, but the reasons they keep running are more complicated. Recent findings in anthropology, biology, and neuroscience suggest that we’re drawn to challenges that teach us about our own limits and about the world around us. This “explorer’s gene” spurs to us explore both the physical world and the world of ideas—and sends us out running.
A book signing will follow the talk, with copies of The Explorer’s Gene available for purchase.

Alex Hutchinson
 is the New York Times bestselling author of The Explorer's Gene: Why We Seek Big Challenges, New Flavors, and the Blank Spots on the Map. He is a National Magazine Award-winning science journalist with The Globe and Mail and Canadian Running, and writes Outside magazine’s Sweat Science column. Before journalism, he was a postdoctoral physicist and a long-distance runner for the Canadian national team. He lives in Toronto.
