The Women of Maryland Fitness Group (WMFG) is pleased to present the WMFG Saree Walk/Run 2023, a one-of-a-kind event taking place on October 8. Participants are invited to wear traditional attire such as sarees, dhotis, lungis, or other traditional wear for kids, and join us for a 5K walk/run along the scenic Carl Henn Millennium Trail in Rockville. This event aims to challenge the misconception that running in a saree is not possible by honoring the women who have done so before us. In order to make it a family-friendly event, men are encouraged to participate in their dhotis or lungis, and children are invited to dress in any traditional attire. The registration fee for adults is $20 per person, while kids can participate for free. All proceeds from the run will benefit Ashiyanaa (formerly ASHA for Women), a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering South Asians to lead fulfilling lives. Registration for the event closes on September 25, 2023. Early registered participants will have the opportunity to join the WMFG Saree Run training group, which includes free training runs, updates, saree draping tips, and more. The registration fee covers entry to the event, personalized badges, a walk/run tracker, refreshment boxes, prizes, and professional photography. Saree draping volunteers will also be available on-site to assist participants. Let's break the stereotype and celebrate the beauty of traditional attire while supporting a worthy cause.
