Join Dr. Thokozani Mhlambi and Dr. Elizabeth Perrill for an enlightening discussion on African art stories and ancient Zulu songs at the Zulu Weaving, Zulu Culture, & the Global Imagination event. This immersive celebration will take place on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, NM. Dr. Mhlambi, a talented musician and cultural thinker, will present his body of work called "Zulu Song Cycle," a compilation of songs inspired by the spirits and cultural legacy of the KwaZulu-Natal region. Dr. Perrill, a respected professor of art histories, will share her approach to art historical and contemporary research in South Africa and KwaZulu-Natal. Her work, based on life-history methodologies and conversations with isiZulu-speaking artists, informs her curatorial practice and collaborative film project. On the way from Phoenix to Page, we passed through three areas with completely different geological features and vegetation. When we first left Phoenix, we saw columnar cacti on both sides of the road. As the altitude increased, the cacti and other low shrubs disappeared, replaced by tall pine forests, and finally the barren plateau with Danxia landform characteristics. It was amazing!
