The Munich Beer Festival (also known as "October Festival", German: Oktoberfest) is held in Munich, Germany from late September to early October every year. It lasts for two weeks (about 16 days) and is the biggest event of the year in Munich. In 2002, about six million people participated in the beer festival, and many other cities also followed Munich's example to hold "October Festival".

Maria Square is the central square in Munich. In the middle of the square is the statue of the Virgin Mary, and in the north of the square is the Gothic-style town hall (Rathaus), which was built in 1867-1908.
