Chen Garden, also known as &quot;Shen&#39;s Garden,&quot; is a Song Dynasty-style garden located at 318 Luxun Middle Road, Yuecheng District, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province, China.

The following is a detailed introduction:

History

Chen Garden was the private garden of a merchant named Shen during the Southern Song Dynasty, with a history of over 800 years. In 1151 AD, Lu You and his wife Tang Wan met here by chance, and Lu You inscribed the poem &quot;Chai Tou Feng.&quot; When Shaoxing was liberated, only a small section of Chen Garden remained. In the 1850s, descendants of the Shen family donated it to the state. In 1987 and 1993, the government and relevant departments rebuilt it on the original site, restoring it to its current size.

Layout

Chen Garden is divided into three parts: North Garden, East Garden, and South Garden. The North Garden, the main garden, is a historic area, preserving numerous ancient relics, such as the Shuanggui Hall, the Six Dynasties Well Pavilion, the Wenmei Pavilion, the Solitary Crane Pavilion, and the Chaitoufeng Stele. The South Garden is a memorial area, featuring the Lu You Memorial Hall and the Lianli Garden. The East Garden, located east of the historic area, is a lovers&#39; garden themed on the love story of Lu You and Tang Wan.

Cultural Value

Chen Garden is famous for the love story of Lu You and Tang Wan. Lu You left behind numerous poems here, including &quot;Chaitoufeng&quot; and &quot;Chen Garden.&quot; These works have enriched Chen Garden&#39;s cultural heritage, making it known as &quot;China&#39;s First Love Garden.&quot; Furthermore, Chen Garden is the only Song-style garden to survive among the many classical gardens of Shaoxing, making it of high artistic value.

Scenic Area Honors

Designated a Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit in 1963, the Shenyuan Scenic Area, the hometown of Lu Xun in Shaoxing, was rated a National AAAAA-level Tourist Attraction in 2012. In 2022, it was selected for the November 2022 Top 100 Most Influential AAAAA-level Scenic Areas list.

Opening Hours and Tickets

Daytime hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with last admission at 4:40 PM. Admission is 40 RMB per person. Shenyuan Night Show is open from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM, with performances from 7:40 PM to 8:30 PM. Tickets start at 98 RMB per ticket.

Shaoxing is truly an ancient city with great food, fun activities, and a rich culture. Just strolling around here is incredibly pleasant and beautiful. I visit Shaoxing almost every year.

The scenery is beautiful, and the crisp autumn weather is perfect for a trip. The Wupeng boat ride is a must-do and a great experience, with children getting half price. You can see the vertical cliffs of Xiantao East, which is quite impressive. It takes less than two hours to get in and take the boat, then slowly walk back out. It&#39;s a great family outing.

The Orchid Pavilion

The scenic spot is much larger than expected. The check-in spots are very rich and elegant. The museum is at the end of the scenic spot. If you want to visit the museum, you need to stay more time. We visited the museum at the end and it was almost evening, so we did not visit the museum. The ancients were really good at choosing places. There are mountains and waters, which are very comfortable. It is very suitable to meditate and practice calligraphy here.
