Keflavik International Airport is the main airport serving the city. Located around 30 miles from Reykjavik city centre, the airport is easily accessible by bus. If you’re travelling from the UK, you can also book tickets to Reykjavik from cities such as London, Manchester and Glasgow. If you fancy exploring more of Iceland whilst your there, places such as Hveragerði with its hot springs, and the seaside village of Vik with its nearby glaciers, are both accessible via car or public transport.
One of the famous landmarks in Reykjavik is the Hallgrimskirkja church, which offers incredible views from the top. It is the largest church in Iceland and boasts a unique architectural design inspired by the Icelandic landscape. Talking of impressive architecture, the Harpa with its glass façade that reflects the colours of the surrounding mountains and sea, is also a must-visit. The city also boasts an abundance of museums such as the Perlan Museum where you can learn about the country’s natural wonders, and the Arbaer Open Air Museum for an insight into the city’s past. The Golden Circle is also a popular sightseeing route where you can see incredible geysers and waterfalls.
Besides the city’s impressive landmarks, Reykjavik offers a wide range of exciting activities. You can soak in the geothermal pools of the Blue Lagoon, enjoy a whale-watching excursion, indulge in some retail-therapy on Laugavegur or sample the delicious Icelandic specialities in one of the city’s many restaurants. But when the sun goes down, Reykjavik shines even brighter. As one of best places in the world to witness the Northern Lights, a trip to Reykjavik wouldn’t be complete without seeing the mesmerising light show. As for nightlife, Reykjavik won’t let you down with its lively party scene.
