Cambodia Arrival Card

With its approximately 17.8 million inhabitants, Cambodia is a relatively small Southeast Asian country. It borders Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos to the north, and has become a popular travel destination in Southeast Asia thanks to its numerous sights, such as Angkor Wat and the stone faces at Prasat Bayon.

The capital, Phnom Penh, with its Techo International Airport (located around 20 km south in Kandal province), is the arrival point in Cambodia for many travellers. In 2024, Cambodia welcomed 6.7 million visitors. This represents an increase of 22.9% compared to the previous year, meaning the visitor record from pre-Covid times has even been surpassed.

The Cambodia e-Arrival Card was also launched in the same year. Initially in a trial phase, it became mandatory for all visitors arriving in Cambodia by air from 1 September 2024. However, it is not the only document that travellers to Cambodia need. You can find all the important details about the e-Arrival Card, such as costs, how to apply, and more, in our Trip.com guide!

🤔 What is the Cambodia e-Arrival Card?

The Cambodia e-Arrival Card is an electronic arrival card that you must complete before your arrival and which you need for entry into Cambodia. The e-Arrival Card system has been in use since 2024 and has replaced all paper versions previously issued.

However, Cambodia's e-Arrival Card is more than just the standard collection of travel and personal data common in many Asian countries. It also directly integrates the customs declaration and a health self-declaration.

The e-Arrival Card can be created either online on the official website of the Cambodian government or via the Android, Huawei, and iOS app. You can now get an initial overview of the e-Arrival Card with the help of our Trip.com summary:

🧐 Is there a difference between the e-Arrival Card and the Foreigners Present in Cambodia system?

Yes, and this is a significant one, because the Arrival Card must be completed BEFORE entry, and the Foreigners Present in Cambodia System (FPCS) must be completed DURING your stay in Cambodia. The e-Arrival Card is therefore a mandatory document for anyone officially entering by air.

The FPCS, on the other hand, is mandatory exclusively for foreigners. The Cambodian government uses it to stay informed about the number and whereabouts of foreign nationals within its territory.

‼️ IMPORTANT: If you are staying in a hotel or other tourist accommodation (e.g. an apartment, hostel, etc.) in Cambodia, you do not need to use the FPCS yourself. In this case, you will be registered automatically by the person in charge. You only need to register yourself using the app if you are staying with private individuals.

💻 How do you fill out Cambodia's e-Arrival Card?

The e-Arrival Card already has "electronic" in its name, so it’s not much of a surprise that it is completed and created digitally. In practice, this means you have to fill it out either online or via the app, and it will also be issued to you in the form of a QR code in this way.

Paper documents have been a thing of the past since September 2024 for all travellers arriving in Cambodia by air. This also applies to the health and customs declaration integrated into the e-Arrival Card.

⚠️ ATTENTION: This actually ONLY applies to visitors arriving by air. Anyone arriving by land or sea must still use a paper document.

💶 Costs and fees for the Cambodia e-Arrival Card

The Cambodia Arrival Card is provided to you free of charge. In doing so, Cambodia is following the same path as numerous other Asian countries, such as South Korea, Malaysia, or Thailand, for their arrival cards. You will therefore never see a payment window or be asked to provide credit card details or any other information necessary for payment during the entire process.

⚠️ Who needs to complete a Cambodia e-Arrival Card, and what applies to British citizens in this regard?

An e-Arrival Card must be completed by everyone arriving in Cambodia by air. Cambodia makes no exceptions here and even requires its own citizens to present an e-Arrival Card at the airport.

Cambodia e-Arrival

This regulation therefore also applies to all foreigners. So, you can keep in mind that you need an e-Arrival Card, regardless of whether you hold a British, Irish, or other European passport.

🛂 NOTE: British citizens, just like French and German citizens, can use an e-Gate. As the government of Cambodia highlights on its website, this applies exclusively to these three countries.

☝️ Are there any exceptions to the Cambodia electronic Arrival Card?

Cambodia treats everyone arriving at its airports equally in this regard, as they all must present an electronic arrival card. There are no exceptions, neither for diplomats nor for Cambodian citizens. Only passengers in transit do not need to create an e-Arrival Card. This is because they are not formally entering Cambodia, but remaining in a transit area.

⏰ When do I need to create the Cambodia Arrival Card?

According to the Cambodian government, the e-Arrival Card must be completed within a period of 7 days BEFORE arrival, i.e., entry. In the case of Cambodia, you therefore have significantly more time than you would, for example, on your trip to Malaysia (3 days). However, you must strictly adhere to this timeframe and therefore must not complete your Arrival Card weeks or even months in advance.

🛃 Can I still create my Cambodia Arrival Card at the airport?

Yes, that is possible, and there are even tablets available for this purpose in the arrival halls of Cambodian airports. However, it is not advisable to actually wait until the very last second. Since the document is required for entry, you theoretically have until the moment you arrive at an immigration desk.

‼️ CAUTION: Some airlines check whether you have created an Arrival Card as early as check-in. If you haven't, you can do this right there on the spot. Otherwise, you may be refused check-in.

🛂 Cambodia entry requirements for British travellers
