Grand Hotel Bristol

We spent a lovely week at the beautiful hotel, having stayed there 15 years ago. We had the most incredible view of the lake and garden which was the highlight of our stay. The hotel and grounds were very clean and the staff were all helpful and friendly. We loved the pool area and gardens and ate our lunch at the pool side bar, and found the staff friendly. There was a pizza van they on two days which was a great success. We were disappointed with the breakfast buffet selection which was fine if you like cake and croissants; although loved the fresh orange juice and location - sitting outside overlooking the lake was very special. We did have a few issues in our room ie the tv didnt work, nor did the balcony doors but all complaints were resolved quickly. We were disappointed not to have a kettle in the room and would have liked the showers in the gym and pool area to have soap - especially on our final day when we needed to shower before leaving. Our daughter used the gym every day and was frustrated that the equipment was not turned on and had to contact a member of staff to do this each time - strange that this wasn't done daily. The gym was small with no air conditioning. We were also surprised that a hefty amount was added to our bill for service, albeit discretionary, but this had not been stated. Overall we would recommend this hotel as it is very beautiful and well kept and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
Boutique Hotel Stresa

This hotel was a pleasant surprise and a highlight of our trip in the northern lake regions of Italy. We had to leave the Lake Como region as we were only able to find one night for an acceptable hotel there (i.e. clean and not run down), so we drove on to Lago Maggiore hoping our newly booked hotel would be as wonderful as the pictures showed. We ended up staying two nights and we were very sad to leave onto the next portion of our trip! To put it into perspective we came from a Hilton to this hotel and while the Hilton was impressive, there was something more pleasing and charming here. It is a completely new hotel along Lago Maggiore. Having finished construction in late August/early September, they had almost no wear and tear in the hotel. It is also ideal as it is located close to a ferry location, no more than 10 minute walk. This made it ideal for visiting the other islands around the lake. Their downstairs dinning room for breakfast and dinner were absolutely amazing. I cannot say enough about the chef or the professionalism of the staff. The knowledge of their maître d' taught us so much not only about the different food and wines, but the history and culture of this beautiful Italian city. They have a roof top area for lunch and I do recommend you use it as the view is spectacular. It is a relaxing way to spend the evening. Also, as it is located right along the lake, there is a long access of walkway just on the other side of the street to stroll and enjoy the views of not only the lake but some of the islands you may visit. A good consideration when having to walk off the excess meals you are sure to delight in! If you are in the norther lake region, do make Stresa a planned stop. I believe you will enjoy it much more than Lake Como as it is far enough from Milan so that it does not suffer as much from traffic congestion as Lake Como. And if you are staying in Stresa, look no further than here.

Top quality hotel run by great staff. Lovely breakfast and dinner . Really nice pool area and sun beds available all the times we wanted them . The hotel is really nice in a great location to view the islands. The shuttle bus into town is great and is neccasary as the only downside is no footpath to the town and it’s a busy road
Hotel Astoria

We stayed 6 nights this August at the Astoria, it was an average stay. The positives, the view from our hotel room was to die for, the breakfast, pool and porters staff were super helpful and friendly, plenty of hanging and cupboard space for clothes, location excellent. We paid over £260 per night for our room. Negatives, the room and bathroom were too small, the toilet was behind the door so you had to walk in, close the door so to get to the toilet. A bit difficult during the night as didn't want to wake husband by putting the light on. There was no room to rest you toilet bag or toiletries in the bathroom. The walls were very so could hear next doors every move, cough, sneeze, toilet flush, baby crying the last 2 nights etc. Rooms could do with an update as dated and carpets a clean. Reception staff pleasant apart from check out. We got our invoice, asked a question, no eye contact what's so ever. Not very helpful man, we paid, said thank you and no acknowledgement AT ALL in fact wasn't interested at all. Thought he was an owner but was told he was an employee. Not good for the company! Let the reception desk down big time. We won't be staying there again. Would rather pay more and stay at the one next door or even further down as they also had entertainment in the evening but not the Astoria. The staff (except this man at reception) made our stay.
Hotel Boston

Our choice of stay in Stresa for our anniversary proved to be a delightful three-star gem. The hotel graciously allowed us to check in early at 1 pm, setting a positive tone from the start. The staff also shared invaluable insights on local attractions and nearby towns to explore. Service at the hotel was attentive and accommodating. We were particularly impressed by the recently renovated breakfast room, which exceeded our expectations with its inviting ambiance and delicious morning offerings. Our room on the third floor provided us with lovely views of the lake, serving as a tranquil retreat throughout our stay. The cleanliness in both the room and the well-maintained bathroom were commendable. While the Wi-Fi signal was accessible throughout the hotel, we found it strongest on the ground floor and near the reception area. This minor inconvenience did not detract from our overall positive experience. One of the standout features of Hotel Boston is its ideal location. Just a short stroll from the enchanting lakefront, railway station, and embarcadero, we found ourselves perfectly positioned to explore the captivating surroundings at our own pace. All this left us with fond memories and a desire to return in the future.
