Although the hotel is a bit old, it's very well-maintained. We booked a 10-tatami mat room, which was spacious enough for three people, and the ocean-facing view was beautiful. Both the Kaiseki dinner and the set-menu breakfast exceeded our expectations – absolutely delicious! The service, as always, was impeccable, nothing to fault. The indoor hot spring was quite large, and the outdoor one was also good. We got a fantastic deal, which made it even more worthwhile. A truly unforgettable memory. Thank you!
The shuttle bus from Ikidanabe JR Station was at around 2pm. If you missed it, you can only take a taxi there, which costs about 1700JP.
The beach behind the hotel is very beautiful, and you can see the sunset.
I booked a one-night stay with two meals. The dinner was pretty good, and the quality was higher than that of several hotels behind the Kumano Kodo!
There was also dandan noodles for supper in the evening. Personally, I feel that except for the inconvenient transportation, I am satisfied with the hotel in other aspects!
The shuttle bus was delivered to Ikidanabe Station at 10am in the morning. We felt it was a bit late, so we asked the front desk to call a taxi to the station.
Other areas are good!
The Japanese-style tatami rooms are spacious and comfortable, offering views of the inner bay in a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast and dinner are included, featuring a variety of fresh ingredients. Guests can enjoy a relaxing soak in the onsen (hot spring). The hotel is conveniently located near Kii-Katsuura Station, making transportation easy. Ideal for families and group gatherings.
We stayed at the Nisshokan and watched the sunrise from our room. This time, we were assigned room 8612, and initially, I thought it might be a bit off-center compared to room 8613, which we had in September and faced directly where the sun rose. However, room 8612 in January also offered a fantastic view, angled perfectly towards the sunrise. The breakfast and dinner were superb. There was a great selection of sake, and I particularly enjoyed the slightly alcoholic (5%) option, which had a nice kick. The ice cream had a rich milky flavor, and the seafood was incredibly fresh. After checking in at 3 PM, we took the direct elevator to Mt. Noroshi outside the mountain lodge. The weather was clear, the temperature was pleasant, and the gentle breeze was refreshing. The room was clean, and the down comforter kept us very warm in winter, so much so that we couldn't even turn on the air conditioning without it becoming too hot. That afternoon, we soaked in the Wasureno-yu (Forget-to-Return Cave), and the next morning, we visited the Genbu-do Cave. In September, after bathing, I had a cold drink and ended up with a sore throat for a few days. This time, I was more careful; after the bath, I had cold Nanko plum juice and ice cream, and thankfully, no sore throat this time!
I came here because of Detective Conan, and the hotel's location is just incredible – facing the sea, absolutely stunning! However, since the hotel is in a small town, taking the bus during peak season can be really inconvenient. You can contact the hotel to arrange a taxi, but most local drivers don't speak English. There are many great places to eat in town, but they tend to close early. The hotel's onsen is very comfortable; soaking in the hot spring while listening to the sea is a wonderful experience. The hotel is also very close to Engetsu Island, where you can watch the sunset 🌄 – it's truly amazing and perfect for photos! The only drawback is that the facilities are a bit old, probably due to its long history!
The hotel is situated at a secluded corner of Wakayama prefecture. It is much preferable to drive here rather than relying on the infrequent hotel shuttle. Public transport is otherwise non existent.
There are no restaurants around the hotel. However the hotel provides delicious meals with abundant fresh seafood. The in room dining experience is superb. The hotel staff service is impeccable.
The room has a spectacular sea view allowing you to see the sunset on clear days. The onsen also faces the sea which provides a relaxing experience.
A downside is that the hotel does not seem to sanitize the slippers for indoor use. All hotel guests had to change to their slippers to access their indoor facilities.
Although the hotel is relatively old, it is still a pleasant surprise overall. The room is very good, the beach is just outside, the price/performance ratio is very high, and the overall travel accommodation experience is very good.
The hotel has a small house across from the fish market for guest registration, where you wait for a small boat to take you to the island. I'm not sure why no one informed us about this after booking on Trip.com. No emails, no texts, no in-app messages. After arriving in Kii Katsuura, we had to use Google Maps to figure out how to get to the island ourselves. We were directed to a very secluded pier, the closest one to the island, but the hotel's boat didn't even stop there. We had to call the front desk, and they directed us back to the fish market to find the registration office. I'm very sure that, even on the day of my check-in, there was no information on Trip.com about how to get to the island.
The hotel itself is incredibly thoughtful. There's a hiking trail that takes about 15 minutes to reach a mountain observatory and a foot bath, for which towels are even provided. Both the male and female indoor and outdoor baths are excellent. We also tried the private bath at the cape, which was also great; all the baths are genuinely very close to the sea. The women's bath on the second floor even has a bath where you can lie down, and the outdoor rotemburo in the women's bath features a cave landscape, which is very unique. Dinner is a sukiyaki that you cook yourself, and the meat is good. Breakfast includes three small platters and a buffet, which is also very generous. At different times, there's free-flowing beer, plum wine, sake, and ice cream. The only minor drawback is that there are no vending machines in the hotel; if you want juice, you have to buy it from the first-floor shop before it closes. Overall, I highly recommend staying here because the hotel is simply outstandingly thoughtful.
Accommodation was lovely and centrally located to shirarahama beach. It was a 3 minute walk from the bus stop.
It was well stocked with amenities and the room was large and clean.
The lady boss is Chinese so you can communicate by Chinese. They are incredibly kind and helped me get to the hospital when I injured my ankle. They are people that you can trust.
Breakfast was also delicious! Chinese food is yummy and a nice break from Japanese cuisine.
I had a wonderful stay here and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Shirahama for a relaxing getaway.
First off, the location is fantastic. The bus stop is right in front of the hotel, and after taking bus #12 from Shirahama JR Station, you get off directly at the hotel. The hotel staff are very welcoming and were at the entrance to help with luggage – super friendly! Across the street from the hotel is Shirarahama Beach, which is stunning whether it's cloudy or sunny. The white sand paired with the blue ocean is a real treat for the eyes. Shirahama is very quiet at night, and shops close early, but within a five-minute walk, there's a FamilyMart, Lawson, and a 24-hour supermarket. So, if you need snacks or drinks, these are great options. The hotel also has a microwave on the first floor for heating food. You can even buy fireworks at the supermarket to enjoy on the beach.
Room: The room was very spacious with plenty of space and directly faced the beach. During my two-day stay, I spent time just relaxing in the room, watching the sunset, observing people on the beach, or heading downstairs to cross the road and lie on the beach or play in the water. It was incredibly relaxing for both my mind and body. The room had both a bathtub and a shower. The bathtub was right next to the balcony, so you could soak while enjoying the view. The hotel also has indoor hot springs, but unfortunately, I couldn't use them.
Service: Most of the staff were middle-aged men and women, very kind and gentle. There was also a Chinese-speaking girl with a particularly soft voice who always greeted me with a smile. The service was excellent.
Although breakfast was the same every day, it tasted quite good.
Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay and would definitely choose Sanrakuso again if I come back to Shirahama.

GGuest UserIt can't be said to be a hotel, it should actually be a camp hostel. Breakfast should be taken to the front desk with breakfast rolls, dinner will be delivered to the room by the staff, and then barbecue by yourself! The breakfast food is very rich, and the dinner (bbq) portion is average! The staff is very polite and kind! The room is clean, but there are old traces, the mattress is hard, the pillow is very flat and the size is very thin! The garbage should be sorted and treated by itself, and take it to the designated place!
GGuest UserKasamatsutei is a precious opportunity to actually live in and experience the ambience of a traditional Japanese farmhouse, and thankfully one equipped with high quality modern conveniences. Not only does the house take back into the architecture and environment of a Japanese village, but story behind the effort to restore the house reveals the ongoing vitality and struggles of the community. Exquisite views of the terraced rice paddies from a few minutes up the road.
PPolovinkinaWonderful hotel. The rooms are small, but with a beautiful view of the ocean. There is everything you need in the room: a stove, a refrigerator, a grill, a steamer. There are all the necessary utensils. The only thing is that we couldn't adjust the shower for a long time - the temperature is cool. There are many shops nearby. The ocean is a 10-minute walk away. Very friendly guys at the reception.
GGuest UserThe Japanese-style house was dismantled into a guest house. It is only for girls. It is better. It is not a mixed bag. The owner Rinji is a man, but it seems that he can't live here, so our actions are OK. If you don’t bring your own towel in the bath, use the towel at the homestay for 100yan, and wash your clothes for 100yan.
GGuest UserThere are fewer restaurants near the hotel. You can go to the hot springs when you stay in the hotel. Although the facilities are very old, it is really comfortable to soak in the soup after hiking! ! The front desk does not speak English but the service attitude is very good, it is still very recommended
WWangwangwangjiushiwoI originally thought the score was quite low and didn't have much hope, but it turned out to be unexpectedly good. For this price, you can also soak in hot springs, and the house is spotless and odorless. It is really worth it. I really like this old Japanese-style house. It feels better than a hotel.
らららん555Located just a minute's walk from the station, the room was simple but well-maintained, and the owner's service was excellent. It was a very pleasant stay. Even though it was right next to the train tracks, it was quiet and I slept very well. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you.
JJack_Lin1984It's alright, the hot spring is okay, and the price is cheap. The conditions are decent; it's probably one of the better hostels out there. I hope the service can be improved. There's a young male waiter there, and his work attitude could be better. The location isn't easy to find.
GGuest UserThe room was very clean. The landlady was kind and could communicate in Chinese using a translation software. I ordered her breakfast for 800 yen and it was very comfortable. I didn’t know what to choose from the meal. I just ate what she made and I was very satisfied. This B&B can pick you up from the station. I don’t speak Japanese, so I can only walk there. When I left, she drove me to the station. I liked it very much! The bus runs twice a day, and it’s difficult to take a taxi. The pick-up and drop-off is very pleasant.
GGuest UserVery good. First of all, the location is extremely convenient. It is 20 meters next to the Sanduanbi bus stop. You can get there just after getting off the bus. Walking back is Sanduanbi.
Secondly, the room was large, clean and beautiful, and I slept very comfortably. Although there was more than one shared bathroom, I never had to wait when I used it. It should be noted that the bathroom has shampoo, shower gel, and facial cleansing foam, but no toothbrush. There may be a toothbrush but I didn't see it. I brought my own toothbrush and I didn't ask.
In the end, the couple who ran the hotel were very friendly and I felt very warm, thank you!
