Edinburgh Hostels

I've never stayed in a hostel before, let alone in a former jail revamped as one ! Besides the gimmick, the Court is a wonderful place to stay if you are visiting Edinburgh, whether on a budget or not : fantastic location near the St Giles cathedral (where city tours seemingly start from), super friendly staff and surprisingly clean amenities (first time experience in a hostel so I didn't know what to expect quite frankly). Would definitely recommend !

Very convenient location. So close from the train station and the royal mile. The temperature of the room was perfect, not cold, not too warm. Cleanliness good. Bathrooms were clean.Will book it again when visiting Edinburgh as I really liked the location.

had a fantastic stay here! there were 10 of us who all booked out a dorm. was quiet, clean and good quality. there are two bathrooms and two toilets per dorm which i thought was very good. our room wasn’t ready for an extra half an hour so they gave us free drink tokens for the bar! the reason this doesn’t get 5 stars is because it was awfully hot in the room - even with the window open! there didn’t seem to be air con - we wondered even if the hostel had put the heating on? we didn’t try the breakfast. the hotel bar had decent food but long waits.

Top notch service with friendly and warm staff who even helped me to check in when I arrived at 3am due to train delay. Huge thank you for this. Only area for improvement would be the toilet bathe area which is constantly chocked across all cubicles and the water floods while bathing.

I stayed two nights during Christmas and the second night was full. I could only choose another branch, so the advantages and disadvantages of both stores can be analyzed in detail. 1.Rose street branch Advantages, the rooms are small and fine, there are only two on the first floor, and the service feels more in place. The waiter is even willing to help you bring luggage into the room, and the room has fewer beds and is comfortable! The heating can be adjusted to 30 degrees! !! The kitchen is small so you can chat with shop assistants and tourists from all over the world while cooking! Disadvantages, the bathroom is shared by men and women, but because there are not many people, I have not encountered the opposite sex in the bathroom, and the bathroom is very private! Two doors plus a shower curtain! Also, the location is close to bars and other places, the sound insulation effect is average, but with earplugs, the environment outside the hotel is relatively ordinary, it is not easy to find at first. The pictures look at other people's uploads, basically the same Parliament Square branch, the advantages, the location is so unimaginable, the sights across the street! Hahaha! The bathroom is divided into men and women, the bathroom is large, the kitchen is large, all kinds of kitchen utensils, microwave ovens, seasonings are complete! !! Of course, Rose Street is quite complete, and the waiters are very enthusiastic. When I was cooking, they were cooking, and they chatted with me enthusiastically, and invited me to eat some desserts they made! Disadvantages, the room is slightly more expensive than rose street, and there are a lot of beds. The boring atmosphere of a little popular just after entering, makes me want to go back to rose street! Later I got used to it! The heating can only be adjusted to 23 degrees, which is still a bit cold, but you can apply to add a quilt! Please see the bathroom pictures I uploaded, not bad!

Superb hostel and fantastic value. Even better in that I had booked a 4 bed dorm, but had it ALL to myself! Excellent staff, very friendly and efficient. Highly recommend this place (especially during low season😎)

Best hostel I’ve been to! Visited Edinburgh a number of times and every time we stay here. The staff are always so friendly, the rooms are clean, it has such a great atmosphere, the common area is a great place to meet new people and hang out. Always feel super welcomed and safe here. It’s also in an excellent location very close to the centre of Edinburgh and easy to walk to most places in the city from here. I would highly highly recommend anyone visiting Edinburgh to stay here. I will 100% be back again

I came here as a solo traveller and left with so many new friends! The staff at the hostel and the people who stay there are all exceptionally friendly, helpful and welcoming. There were always evening events on which encouraged people to mingle and socialize. I stayed in a mixed dorm with a brilliant view of the castle. My only complaint is that the top bunks didn't have big enough guard rails and I was a bit worried about rolling out of bed as I move quite a bit in my sleep. There were a sufficient number of toilets and showers down the hall, including a women's only shower and toilet for those not comfortable with co-ed showers. The ground floor was made up of serval lounges for whatever your mood and the largest most equipped hostel kitchen I have ever seen in my many years of travelling. I came here because it was recommended by some friends and I won't hesitate to keep recommending it to other friends.

This is a good place for backpackers. We stayed here for a couple of nights in a 12 bed dormitory. The beds were good with ample space to keep our stuffs. Toilers were clean. The receptionists were friendly and approachable. The check-in time is 2 PM, so if you arrive early, you'll need to wait in the locker room and help yourself to some coffee. Or else you can keep your bags in a locker and roam around the city till you are ready to check-in. Early check-in is also available, but subject to availability of beds/rooms. Overall, quite good.

Fabulous stay for my husband and I in a very clean annexe part of the hostel. Full working kitchen with table and chairs. Our double bedroom was very comfortable, clean, warm and well decorated with a tv. Shared bathroom (2) and separate toilet. The location is superb, just off the Royal Mile, but two things to bear in mind. Firstly there are quite a lot of steep stairs, the building is old with character and so single pane windows. The street below has cobbled stones with tall buildings each side - so great acoustics for hearing all noises and it’s a vibrant city so it’s rarely peaceful. It wasn’t a problem for us but earplugs essential for lighter sleepers I’d say. Great value for money and ideal for the nearby Christmas Matket and seeing the lights in town, at the castle and the superb trail of lights at Edinburgh Botanic Gardens. A short, albeit steep walk up from Waverley train station. Loved our stay here we managed to pack a lot into a short stay due to the location.
