Retac Abu Simbel Nefertari Hotel

Ideal for an overnight stay in Abu Simbel to easily visit the temple. Otherwise, it's poor quality and overpriced.

The hotel is quite new, and the facilities are well-maintained. There's a beautiful lake nearby. It's the closest hotel to the temple, a 10-minute walk away. Breakfast is average. Housekeeping knocks very early, so be sure to put your phone on Do Not Disturb beforehand. I was knocked on three times in half an hour, twice while I was showering. She probably wanted to remind me to leave early. Many people visiting Matrouh also go to Siva, but be aware that while Siva is known for its friendly and honest people, there are also scams. I booked a hotel in Soléi Old Town in Siva town center through ***********, but upon check-in, I was taken to a guesthouse-like place far from the hotel without any signage. The environment was terrible; it felt like being sold out. I felt completely unsafe, and the owner was incredibly unscrupulous, knowing Booking.com's policy of non-refundable bookings and refusing to admit it. This wasted a lot of time and disrupted my itinerary. Please be careful when traveling; try to choose reputable platforms with refund policies and larger hotels to avoid affecting your travel experience.

The room was spacious and the facilities were new, but the pillows were too high; I hope they can provide lower pillows. We arrived at 3 PM, and the front desk recommended a sunset boat trip on the lake for $65. The boat was quite large and very stable, the sunset was beautiful, and you could see Abu Simbel from the lake – definitely worth it. You can call a golf cart to take you to the entrance of the scenic area; it's actually only a 5-minute walk. There weren't many guests on the day we checked in, so the buffet breakfast wasn't open. You could order à la carte: $10 for a chicken leg rice and $15 for a steak rice. The food was pretty good; I recommend ordering in advance, as we waited an hour. I recommend staying here one night to experience the complete Abu Simbel tour.

First, the advantages: the location is excellent, just a five-minute walk from the temple. Aside from that, everything else is a disadvantage. The hotel facilities and service simply don't justify the high price. The furniture is very old, the shower water pressure is incredibly weak, and it's difficult to even rinse conditioner out completely. For such an expensive room, they didn't even provide bottled water, and then when I checked out, they were surprised and asked, "Your room doesn't have water?" I replied that if there wasn't any in the room, they were implying that they didn't provide it. I was genuinely angry and laughed. I don't know if it was truly an oversight or something else entirely.
