"Quite fair for the price! But a little bit far from fort William town centre, and the service is brilliant and helpful as we blocked off the road and very late check in!"

Loch Shiel Hotel

Loch Shiel Hotel

📍 Ardshealach, Acharacle
★★★ 8.5 (47 reviews)

"Though some aspects of our 2-night stay were OK, there were a number of negatives. Firstly, it seems unforgivable if you are paying well over £100 a night that you cannot get access to the hotel until 1600. We arrived at 1540 and found a Belgian couple and a Dutch couple who had been waiting outside for 90 minutes to get in. It was raining quite heavily, so touring around on their bikes was not an attractive alternative. There is not much else to do on a rainy Scottish day in Ardnamurchan. The room was a bit basic, and the couch had seen better days a few years ago. Of the 18 places we have stayed in since the end of May in Portugal, Greece, the UK, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, this was the worst and poorest value, followed by the Travelodge in Richmond. The other unforgivable thing was that it seemed that recently they had fitted new carpets at least in the stairs to the bedrooms and in the bedrooms themselves. What was amateurish and unforgivable was that the doors had not been taken off their hinges and planed down to reflect the thicker carpets. The result was that fire doors would not close automatically or were very difficult to close, meaning that they were left open almost all the time during our stay. I am not sure what would have happened if there was a fire. The food at breakfast and dinner was OK but it was nothing special. Dinner was not particularly good value. If we were visiting the area again, we would choose self-catering accommodation. I recommend anyone else to consider the same. "

Coille Darach B&B

Coille Darach B&B

📍 Anaheilt, Strontian, Acharacle

"This is a very beautiful B&B, lovely decor and well laid out. Mary is one of the friendliest and most accommodating hosts we've met and Denise her help, is just lovely, nothing was too much trouble. There is a tea room opposite with the local shop just over a mile down the road."

Kilchoan Hotel

Kilchoan Hotel

📍 Kilchoan Hotel, Kilchoan, by, Acharacle
★★★ 8.5 (33 reviews)

"I visited this hotel for lunch 2 years ago whilst driving around the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. The food and service was great. Last week whilst staying in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, my wife and I decided to revisit the hotel. This involved a 40 minute ferry crossing and a 1 mile walk up an access road. I had checked the hotel's website to work out when they were serving food - this started at noon and continued to the evening. On arrival at the hotel we were greeted with a sign on the door saying closed, open at 5. The landlady appeared and explained and said that opening hours were restricted by staff shortages. OK I get that - Brexit and the cost of accommodation in the area, but surely it is not too much trouble to update the website! We could have avoided the expense of a wasted journey. "

Loch Shiel Hotel ★★★
"Crikey - amazing how one land'lady'/bar person/whoever, thinks its appropriate to throw as many obstacles and banned activities as possible at your party the minute you step to the bar. No welcome, no warmth, nothing - just rudeness, arrogance and self loathing. She must be waiting, like a coiled lizard behind the warm Tennents pump for the next unassuming customer to walk in. How can someone who must genuinely hate other people so much, choose a job that deals with other people all day long! Aggressive ID check on the party. I'm 53 and look 60 so that one was lost on me. Next aggressive challenge to an 18 year old who hadn't actually ordered anything yet. He wanted a coke so clearly upset her stride at that point. Next - the youngster was not allowed to stand anywhere near the pool table, yet alone play it as it was in the bar and that is clearly against international law at 3pm on a wet May afternoon. He was stood next to the pool table because that is where the door into the bar is! Clearly this simple practicality was too much for the dragon behind the bar to comprehend. The woman/owner/horrible pointless bar person, combined with the two pasty looking midge riddled zombies drinking flat lager in the corner, added to the atmosphere of an abandoned crematorium. Rude, self important hobbyist with zero understanding of the area, and the amazing opportunities available in the stunning part of the world. Travel a little further north and spend your time and money in the Glenuig Inn. That place has never been better since the miserable old loner that owned it eventually sold up a few years ago. ...Maybe take the hint - for the good of the community."

Kilchoan Hotel ★★★
"We spent two nights at the Kilchoan House Hotel while exploring the Ardnamuchan Peninsula and tracing my wife's ancestral roots. The hotel isn't fancy, but it's comfortable, clean and very well run. We booked a sea view room that was in the attic with dormer windows. The room was large, well furnished in a period style. Not only did it have extensive views over the Sound of Mull to the Island of Mull but a panorama that swept round to Ben Niant to the east. The bathroom was equally large and well equipped. We slept well after days of exploring this remote and beautiful part of Scotland. The breakfasts were very good as well."

"We had dinner whilst staying in the area. I’ve been meaning to visit for ages and was excited to finally do so! Lovely!! It’s a wonderfully historical building which has been lovingly restored. Take the opportunity to walk round the walls if you’re there in daylight! The food, staff, and ambience is brilliant, and the bill for the five course dinner with decent wine was just north of £200, which for this standard of food is great value. If you can I recommend that you stay over. It’s a bit of drive! I will return!"
