We had the most delicious meal at the summer isles hotel last night. Everything was outstanding from the service to the oysters to the wine and amazing seafood. We’re glad to have had a chance to experience the summer isles before it moves to new owners and a full refurbishment. It was a wonderful end to our trip to Achiltibuie and we’re excited to come back and see what’s next for this wonderful local institution.

We stayed here for two nights but I wish it had been more! Getting to this hotel involves a long drive down a single track road, however, this road passes some of the most incredible scenery. Once you arrive at the hotel you realise how much of a plus this remoteness is. Looking out at the summer Isles you would struggle to find a more idyllic view. The staff are a true credit to the hotel and offer you a warm welcome. The food in this place is second to none, the menu changes regularly and is some of the best food I've ever eaten. Local produce and freshly caught seafood are the stars of the menu, and we walked away both impressed and very full. With an impressive array of scotch in the bar alongside various other refreshments, you are all set for those cosy evenings by the fire. During the day, you can just pick a direction and set off on a beautiful walk. I'd thoroughly recommend staying here, you won't be disappointed.

The hotel is in a lovely setting. We were staying nearby and decided to dine there. The lobster starter was tasty and fresh. The sourdough bread was stale, which I guess is why it had been warmed up in the oven before serving. The so-called "seafood platter" consisted of one very small piece of cod and one of salmon, both seriously overcooked, and one sad little peeled langoustine, with a wee jug of bisque, which was way too creamy and didn't taste of seafood. This dish cost £38. The two-course meal including a bottle of wine was over £150. Considering the small portions and the fact that our main was dry and overcooked, this was not what I would call worth the money. All in all a big disappointment.

This small hotel is literally in the middle of nowhere and you're greeted by the local wooly residents who have full run of the area! It is in a very pretty location by the sea with Deer herds nearby. However, be aware it took 40 mins from a 'main' road (which was small itself) down a single track road, with lots of passing places, to get to it. Fantastic scenery on route, but to go anywhere, it's a long way. If you were just walkers, then I'd say it's perfect, but driving to the next village took nearly an hour on tiny lanes and although the scenery was magnificent, the driving experience took a toll on my nerves! There's nothing to do except walk here and if it's raining, it could get a bit boring if staying more than a couple of days. However, the food was AMAZING! Best food I think we've had for many a year, so worth a trip for a dining experience alone. Staff very friendly, however, some of the younger staff could do with a little more training to bring it in line with the standard of the menu, as although very helpful, we found ourselves regularly asking again for things, as they'd either forgotten or were distracted on route. A bit disappointed with the room as we could clearly hear next door snoring all night, so not a great night's sleep, but it was a good size bed/bathroom, although could do with some updating.

We have just spent three weeks in Achiltibuie and most nights in the Summer Isles Bar. A very big thank you to all the staff, Ricky & Ricky, Simon, Joe and all the others we didn’t catch the names of. The service in the bar and restaurant was exemplary, especially the evening of my birthday. The staff went the extra mile to make it an unforgettable evening for myself and the family. Thank You.

What a disappointing experience. The 5 star reviews for this hotel are far from reality. Considering the room was over £400, I wouldn’t expect most of the bathroom tiles to be loose and cracked which we tripped over time and again. Now onto dinner… £36 for the highlander beef for the ‘manager’ to not ask us how we want our fillet cooked, to forget the side dishes, to not give us steak knives and to point at us eating our dinner when another guest asks that the highlander beef is! Then it got even messier when we tried to check out. Whoever prepared the invoices the night before got them completely wrong. Some guests had the correct amount due but the wrong name on the invoice and others had a completely wrong balance to pay. For example, we paid for our dinner on the first night so our balance should be around £250 for half the room costs and the dogs surcharge of £30. However, overnight our bill miraculously racked up to over £600 because a member of staff added someone’s else dinner onto our invoice! The only thing holding this place together is the blonde lad, I unfortunately didn’t get his name but I believe he was the assistant manager. He was helpful, energetic and attentive throughout. I had a quick look at the trip advisor reviews before deciding on whether to share my experience and it is evident that the owner is unwilling to open his ears to concerned guests and take on their comments on how the hotel could improve.

Although hugely expensive, absolutely the most hyped hotel and totally unworthy of such enthusiastic review in my opinion. The “lodges” have limited windows (zero in two of the bedrooms) grass roofed clastophrobic structures and dated furniture. The main house has some bedrooms which overlook the stunning scenery but the furniture is shaky and shoddy. Some of the electric lights over the bed are broken and the plumbing is needing upgrading. The food is adequate and edible but not special. Thr rundown look of the place does nor endear one to enter the building. On the other hand the staff are quite outstanding, pleasant and caring and are in such contras to the truly disappointing hotel itself. I fear the place is living on their former reputation which was excellent

Was in the Lurgainn room. Nice views of water. Very friendly and accommodating staff. No A/C. Bathroom worn, only a tub, which was hard to get in and out of. No body lotion. Bath tile was mildew. Decent shampoo/body wash. Bath not designed well for 21st century standards. Toilet needs 2-3 handle pumps to get toilet to flush. No shower curtain, just a ¼ glass, which if not careful, allows water all over floor. Unusual way to turn on shower-had to flip a switch outside of the bathroom, and hit a start/stop button. Front desk should have notified the guests of this. No place to put your bathroom items. Not enough wall outlets, especially if using a CPAP. Very thin, hard pillows. Had a USB charger/outlets only on 1 side of the bed, but it was very low voltage. Husband’s CPAP power adapter became very hot during the night. 15 min to main intersection on single track road. Takes 45 min – 1 hour to ferry, which was inconvenient for an early ferry. Ate dinner in dining room. Great langoustines! Not an extensive liquor selection, but good wine by the glass selection.

What a beautiful location for a fabulous hotel. All staff were super friendly and accommodating from the moment we arrived to leaving early the following morning. Great atmosphere in the bar where our hungry teenagers enjoyed some of the wonderful small portion options before evening dinner. Dinner was served by a very attentive team and the food was superb - clean plates all round. Our only regret is that we didn't leave ourselves time to enjoy the area the following day.
