Doho Lodge & Hot Springs

Definitely one of the best lodges at our trip to Ethiopia. Beautiful scenery with doum palms lining hot springs and a small lake, this really is an oasis in the middle of wild and arid country. Rooms are nice and clean, food is traditional Ethiopian and international-all of it, very tasty. You can bath in hot springs, where water is super clean and just at the right temperature, a thing I would highly recommend to anyone! There is much wildlife around the lodge, warthogs, dik -diks, many different birds.....we even heard hyenas and lions at night. But the best part is definitely the staff, so friendly and nice! Special thanks goes to Abraham (reception manager), who guided us into the bush around the lodge and to Alldeghe plains. His extensive knowledge is really helpful in searching and identifying many different animals (especially birds) and plants. Thanks again, we really enjoyed spending time with you!

Ethiopia needs more places like this eco lodge. The lodge is simple and blends in the beautiful natural setting. The accommodation is rustic and electricity is on evenings and mornings, so our headlamp and powebanks were handy. The hotsprings are fun, we enjoyed the quirky setting, the food was very good, fresh from the garden that is right behind the lodge. We went by ourselves for an early morning birdwatching walk around the area. It's very hot, so we don't know how midday must feel as we arrived in the evening and left the next morning. The staff was very friendly. We just don't really understand why, with us being the only guests, they did not let our driver sleep on the premises as the do have drivers quarter.

We travelled to Doho as two families with young children. When you arrive at the lodge it seems you are in a desert. Then, suddenly, behind the rooms, there is an oasis of hot springs cascading through numerous pools surrounded by palm trees, into a small lake. The hotsprings are constantly flowing and the pools are kept beautifully clear and clean. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, with bar fridges a bonus to keep drinks cold in the heat. The restaurant served a variety of western and Ethiopian dishes, including excellent shekla tibs and unusually nice breakfast options (delicious pancakes, french toast, fresh squeezed juice). It can be a challenge to cool off between the heat of the climate and the hotsprings, but our kids loved early morning and evening swims in hot pools. Service was attentive, accommodating and helpful. An excellent long-weekend trip from Addis.

A really great place, wonderful staff, great food and a very good location plus rooms overlooking the lake and springs. Very good for birds and nearby some national wildlife reserves with some game but they are very shy. We had a really great 4 day stay - full marks to the warmth and friendliness of the staff.

For all adventure and nature lovers, I highly recommend you stay at Doho Lodge, it offers decent Villa with a view to the lake, seconds walk to the amazing hot spring pools. The loge is in a convinient location to the Awash Park, the Afar Saturday Market and more. Beautiful sunset while taking a row on a boat is refreshing.The staff are super nice and attentive. I will go there again.

After a short dusty ride from the main road Doho lodge welcomes with smiles, birds singing and spacious rooms. Bar and restaurant overlooking the lake and hot spring pools. Magnificent ! Tasty food breakfast and dinner.
