"Amazing ryokan to stay for a night in Kusatsu Onsen. Staff were all friendly and welcoming, and were helpful in explaining the ryokan’s facilities in English. Both breakfast and dinners are must-have experiences with this ryokan’s stay. The spread was delightful, and the produce used was fresh and delicious. The 3 private baths available were each unique and relaxing in the cold spring weather."

The onsen facilities were excellent, with a variety of hot spring baths that were both relaxing and enjoyable. The breakfast was also very good, featuring a delicious selection of traditional Japanese cuisine that gave us a great start to each day. The only downside was the lack of Wi-Fi in our room, which made it inconvenient to stay connected. However, this was a minor issue compared to the overall experience. Overall, Manza Kogen Hotel is a great choice for anyone looking for a quiet mountain retreat with excellent hot springs and authentic Japanese hospitality."

"The sheets of the tatami bed were not very clean, with a lot of black hair, probably because some black clothes were mixed in when washing in the large bath laundry room. The dinners ordered by domestic travel agents are all buffets, but the dinners ordered through overseas official websites are kaiseki cuisine, so if you want to experience kaiseki, you should order it on the official website yourself. The buffet breakfast and dinner are quite rich, and you will definitely have no problem eating enough. The hot spring is open from 2 o'clock every day to 10 o'clock the next day, and there are basically no people. The hot spring in the open-air bath is a rare cotton-no-yu in Gunma, which is very nourishing to the skin."

"The entire hot spring town is absolutely beautiful. Since it was newly renovated in 2024, there was no musty smell in the room. The staff were professional, polite, and warmly welcoming without being intrusive, and their English was excellent. There's a shuttle service from the hotel to the station, or you can walk there yourself. This hotel is exactly what I imagined a Japanese onsen hotel to be. The hotel's own hot springs are fantastic. The location is truly the best – some hotels are up in the mountains or require a bit of a walk, but Ichii offers direct views of Yubatake. On the first floor, there's also a large souvenir shop with many unique items that aren't available back home. I'd definitely choose to spend a whole day exploring Karuizawa and then stay at Ichii again!"

"What a dreadful hotel! It is obvious that the owner spends as little as possible on maintenance and upkeep. The carpets are worn. The rooms smell of damp and mold. They even use kerosene heaters to warm the corridors. Ugh! It was no surprise that my son saw a rat scurrying past when we used the outdoor baths late in the evening. As for the food, I'm sorry, not fit for humans, adult or child. The sushi! Unbelievable. Disgusting. My wife was charged 6,000 yen to enter the dining room (she was smart and had booked a room in another hotel). There was nothing she wanted to put on the plate. I ate nothing. Neither did my daughter-in-law. Even my son who has a tremendous appetite could find little. My wife summed it best: school meals are far superior to what Hotel Green Plaza Karuizawa offers its guests. We never bothered to even try the breakfast. And by the way, the hotel isn't even in Karuizawa. It is a very long drive from Karuizawa proper. Seriously, think again before booking this hotel."

"I stayed at this hotel during my trip to Kusatsu Onsen. It was close to the Yubatake and other sightseeing spots, so we were able to efficiently visit all the must-see spots! I was traveling with my elderly mother, and they changed our room so we wouldn't have to climb so many stairs!! The hot spring bath and the washing area were never crowded, so we were able to relax and soothe our travel fatigue. I was very satisfied☆"

"Great place. Spacious room. Comfortable futons with a view of the hill. You can hear the mountain river, which is a plus for me. The public onsen is a leisurely 10-minute walk away, making it very convenient to get to anywhere: from the bus station, the ski resort, and Yubataki. There's an art gallery across the street; be sure to check it out. The onsen in the guesthouse is also very nice and clean. The hostess is very sweet and welcoming, ready to help with advice and understand your situation."

"There are many slopes in the area, but I was very grateful to be able to go to the inn on a flat road from the Yubatake. The room was very clean and nice. The accessories and interior were cute! I was happy that the room had a hot spring! The free breakfast was also luxurious. What impressed me was the miso soup, which was delicious with lots of ingredients! When you leave the inn, there are two famous manju shops and a popular pudding shop, so I think it's the perfect place if you want to go around local specialities. Sainokawara Onsen was also less than 15 minutes away on foot."

"Very atmospheric and cozy ryokan. Traditional style room and majestic mountains view are breathtaking. The food is fantastic, you dine privately in peace and also provided with unlimited amount of drinks for 90 minutes. There are private and common (men/women) baths available. Water temperature is comfortable and magically washes away your fatigue. Personnel is kind and helpful, they used translator to explain everything to me. I was provided with shuttle bus on check-in and check-out to nearby station (kawaryo onsen station). This place is perfect if you want to detox from city bustle and cleanse your thoughts. Nearby konbini is 1h away on foot (or 15 min on car) so I advise you to stock up your supplies in advance if you need any."
