The Opposite of Greek Hospitality Unfortunately, our stay at Aquarium Beach Hotel Messonghi (June 22–26) was extremely disappointing, mainly because of the attitude of the staff. My niece had informed the hotel in advance that we were coming to celebrate a birthday. After reading reviews from other guests mentioning special treats, wine, flowers, coffee, water and even gifts for children, we were surprised to find absolutely nothing in our room. When we simply asked about coffee, we were told there was a supermarket nearby. What bothered us most, however, was the cold and unfriendly attitude. We were told that our first-floor room was somehow “special,” although these appear to be among the cheapest rooms, and the hotel was almost empty. We were also given information that turned out to be misleading, including being told that guests do not reserve pool loungers with towels, while the pool area was full of towels saving spots. The most embarrassing moment was at breakfast, when a staff member came after me in front of other guests to tell me that my niece had already taken a meal. It was unnecessary, humiliating and completely lacking in hospitality. What makes this experience even more disappointing is that everywhere else in the area we were treated with incredible warmth. Restaurant and supermarket staff were so kind to us that several of them even came to the bus station to say goodbye when we left. We also met wonderful people from other hotels who welcomed us with genuine warmth and kindness. We have been visiting Greece and its islands for many years and have always loved the Greek people and their hospitality. Sadly, this hotel was the complete opposite of what we normally experience in Greece. We paid around €400 for our stay and left feeling unwelcome and disrespected. Based on our experience, we would not return or recommend this hotel. Atmosphere: Unwelcoming and unfriendly Cleanliness: Acceptable Noise level: Quiet
