Golden Tulip Aix EN Provence
4/567 Reviews
The Golden Tulip chain of hotels renovated this venue a couple of months ago, and created a very efficient, modern and comfortable hotel, very suitable for business and en-route stays. It's located next to the autoroute from Aix-en-Provence to Lyon. Downtown Aix is about a 10 mins. drive. The beds (as in all Golden Tulip hotels) are amongst the most comfortable we've ever slept in! Bathroom modern and efficient. The staff consist of mostly young, enthusiastic people with a modern attitude to service. Definitely a hotel that differs itself positively from the standard en-route French hotel-style! The restaurant should be upgraded somewhat. The menu is limited and as downtown is a bit out, guests should be able to have a bit more choice in the menu.
Odalys City Aix en Provence le Clos de la Chartreuse

I would not recommend this hotel. -Hard to find -Far from city center ($15 euro Uber each way) -no face cloths provided -only one small roll of toilet paper provided (and a half used one) -soap dispensers almost empty -no hair dryer -air conditioner didn’t work -did not allow early check in -stains on walls -broken glass in the cupboard -cobwebs -moldy shower curtain -shower handle was broken and didn’t stay on the holder -They charge $7 per clean (daily clean is not included!!) These are the reasons I would not stay again or recommend staying. This hotel needs improvement and care. The positives: -Staff are nice -Bed was comfortable -Free street parking out front or just $5 underground

Hotel En Ville

I was travelling alone and as such was a little more aware of feeling safe and secure. I was greeted so warmly at this hotel, and each time I passed by reception, Sophie or Laurent made a point to speak with me, engage me in conversation, ask me about my day. On a trip that was sometimes a little lonely, this was especially welcome. I'd requested a superior room and was very pleased with the amenities and especially with the bathroom. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the room was very quiet, and the air conditioning was a welcome respite from the heat wave gripping France while I was there. The beautiful, quiet upper outdoor deck was a lovely space to get away from the bustle of the streets (Although La Rochelle is not particularly large, it is a popular tourist destination for French people so it was a bustling little town! But I want to be sure to specify that the hotel itself is on a quiet plaza and the immediate area is a few blocks removed from all of the hubbub.) I'd return here again without question and recommend it without reservation.
Villa Gallici Hôtel & Spa

Is this the worst hotel I’ve stayed at? No. Was it good? Also no. Let me start with the positives. The property is gorgeously landscaped. You feel like you’re in a private oasis. The pool is very nice, but during peak summer hours the chairs are scarce. The breakfast buffet was fine. Restaurant staff were friendly enough. And on to the bad. I can’t believe this is a 5-star hotel. It’s overpriced and the rooms feel dated. The front desk employees were the least friendly we encountered during our 2+ week excursion in France. One evening we requested in advance that a taxi be called to take us into town. The gentleman at the desk said no problem. When we came back down to the lobby an hour later, a different woman was at the desk and said she had no record of our reservation and instead of offering to immediately call a taxi, sort of argued with us and continued to insist no such reservation existed. We were given the odd 2-story room…the bedroom was upstairs and the bathroom was down a narrow and steep flight of stairs. Overall it was annoying having to trek bath and forth. The room was also unbearably hot despite the ACs being on. We kept the window’s curtains closed during the day, but this didn’t seem to help. After a day of sightseeing, we came back to our room to find housekeeping had opened the curtain and turned off both AC units. It was absolutely miserable. The bed was uncomfortable, lumpy in areas. On the final night, we finally asked for a fan which they did provide. We had quite the unsettling experience when our hotel door was unlocked and 2 hotel employees appeared inside our door at nearly 11pm. I was dead asleep with earplugs in when they turned on the lights, we kind of just stared at each other and they finally closed the door. Completely bizarre. Finally, the location is subpar. While it’s only a 15-20 walk to the center of Aix, you really miss out on the charm of the town. Bottom line, I would never stay here again.
Hôtel Paul
4.1/567 Reviews
The best part of staying at Hotel Paul is the courteous staff. They were so professional and actively sought to make my stay for comfortable. They provided a good breakfast with hot coffee. The room was clean and I felt right at home. Also, the hotel is very close to Old Town area of Aix, a short walk to the Cathedral, the open market, and numerous restaurants.
