Still my go to choice in Albany. Clean, quiet and convenient to the legislative buildings and Albany medical. Decent pricing with free continental breakfast and a convenience shop in the lobby. The staff is very friendly and willing to assist as needed. The ADA Accessible room is not the best but adequate and average. Huge TV in living room and bedroom. All rooms are suites with stove and kitchen.pots, pans and dishes were clean and useable. Easily allows late check in and outs. Paid parking available that is very reasonable! Pool, jacuzzi and fitness area were all clean and secure.

When searching for Albany's travel strategy, I found that the downtown of the city is not very safe, so I searched the surrounding campus area and found that the University at Albany campus area is 10 minutes away from the city by car. The hotel is located near the campus area I feel that the cost-effectiveness of the hotels here is much higher than that in the urban area. Most of the hotels in the urban area do not have independent parking lots and require street pas, while hotels near the campus area can park for free. The room is also very big. The hotel does not include breakfast. If you want to upgrade the breakfast, you need to pay 11 dollars per person. It is recommended to go to the city to eat Brunch. The hotel room is big and the facilities are also very complete

Ok, so we (a family of 5: myself, two teenagers and our two year old)booked a stay here because the location we usually stay at - Home2Suites in Albany was sold out. We called ahead to see if by chance our room might be ready an hour or two before check-in and are told that the room wouldn’t be available til check in time. No problem. We reserved one of the bigger, corner rooms at $172/night (average) so it was understandable. We arrived at the agreed upon checkin time and were told by a man wearing a blue, button down shirt that was so wrinkled, I questioned if he really worked there at first. He radioed to what I assume was his cleaning staff who told him that our room (526) was not yet available and there would be a 30-40 minute wait. My family and I braced for a long wait. Then a gentleman in a neatly-ironed, red, buttoned down shirt came to assist me and told me that in fact room 326 was available for us and there would be no wait. Thankfully that was the case and we didn’t have a wait but also didn’t have the room I had originally reserved. No problem. We had a similar room. By now, the man in the wrinkled shirt was addressing the crowd that was beginning to gather in the lobby loudly exclaiming: “ATTENTION EVERYBODY!!! I AM ONLY GOING TO SAY THIS ONCE SO LISTEN UP.” - he proceeded to yell to the waiting line (which looked like a mix of family and business travelers) the breakfast buffet hours and prices in an exasperated way that made me think they must be tired of confusion regarding the breakfast buffet. We’ve never been here before so I just shrugged my shoulders but found the public interaction awkward because this man who looked like he pulled his shirt out of the trash was speaking condescendingly to the line of travelers who just wanted to get their rooms. I found this entire opening process less than professional but was happy to get to our room. We had reserved the bigger room because we’re a family of 5. I entered that information when I created my reservation. When we got to our room we found the accommodations themselves sufficient but there were only two bath towels, two pillows and no linens for the sofa bed that the kids would be using. Not the end of the world so we called the front desk and to their credit they had our extra towels and bed linens up fairly quickly. But no pillows. It would’ve been cool to not have had to ask for any of these things. Presumably guests steal anything that’s not nailed down so I get it but there must be a better way. We called down again for pillows and they were brought up fairly quickly as well by a friendly attendant. The morning of Friday, August 19th was interesting. My wife and kids were excited to try out the Starbucks located on the ground floor so while they got ready in the room I decided to venture down and get coffee and pastries for everyone. This is one of the most disappointing Marriotts (and hotels, generally) that I've ever stayed in, in decades. The public areas are fine, if worn. The rooms are very worn, walls scuffed, outlets loose, so forth. But the major problem is the general filth. Dirty room to begin with, then the maid service simply made the bed and left new towels. They did not vacuum, clean bathroom floor or dust. Instead of resupplying the coffee and cups, they just ignored used cups and pods, not leaving new coffee pods or cups. Basically, there was no housekeeping. I've actually never seen anything like it in a hotel at this price point. I'd avoid this hotel. They apparently do not have staff or don't care about cleanliness. I couldn't wait to get out.

Fairfield Inns are usually of a good standard, but this one downtown was very disappointing. I booked this over other options due to a typically good breakfast. When I arrived there was a printed paper on the window saying ”No Breakfast Today”. Realizing things could happen like staff out, I asked what was the issue and if they were doing something for the guests like a credit to a breakfast or points for the issue. I was told ”I don't know, we were just told no breakfast” and also that there was to be no compensation for this. Sorry, but breakfast was a big part of the deal of staying at this hotel, and the response was unsatisfactory. When I showered the next morning I noticed something on the towel and found a short curly hair - not the kind you typically want to see in a bathroom, wondering if the towels were actually fresh. The next problem was that I was still charged the 4.95 enhanced Internet fee even though I am an Elite member. I noticed this on my bill later but did not want to go through the hassle of calling the hotel and getting a review and correction for five dollars. I suggest you skip this Fairfield and choose a different option near the city.

My wife and I used to love this place, and stayed here a number of times in the past….but this recent stay was like a dip into the inner rings of HELL. First, when we arrived our sheets and bedding had human hair on it, and obviously was not cleaned at all, but half-way shuffled to give the appearance of a made bed. Strike one! We did get moved to a new room, but that was not a good way to start our vacation. Then, we went to take a swim. Please know we had called ahead of time to make sure the pool was working, as we got the hotel for the purpose of taking our son swimming. That is why we booked it. The pool was ice cold, like the final ring of Hell in Dante’s Inferno, like totally freezing. I lasted a few minutes then pulled my kid out for fear he would get sick. (I did get sick by the way, the following day.) I called the front desk to ask about the heat in the pool and they said they were waiting on a part. I figured at least they were working on it and let it go. The next day we try to swim again and this time the pool is shut down, totally not working. Not a big deal except we had booked the hotel simply to use the pool. We asked to speak to the manager, and the woman at the front desk (who was very unfriendly) said she couldn’t find her but would have the manager call us. After several hours and no phone call from the manager, we decided to take a day trip to Oneanta where my wife went to school….since watching TV in a hotel is not that exciting and we had booked the room simply to use the pool. STRIKE TWO! We got back late that night, and I started not feeling well. The next morning the pool was still broken, and still no call from the manager. We went to breakfast and my son wanted the sausage offered but the pan was empty. There was more than an hour left on the breakfast schedule. We waited at least 20 minutes and no one was visibly working the breakfast and no sausage appeared either. So, I went to ask the front desk about the sausage situation. It was the same miserable woman as before at the front desk. The woman at the front desk was rude, and said “I don’t work there” when I told her about the breakfast situation. I thought ***? She cannot call or buzz the breakfast people from the front desk and inquire? I asked her: “does someone work there?” And she replied yes and told me to go back and find them. This I found to be very odd given we are in times of COVID and inviting people to go into a food prep area seemed weird, but I followed her direction and went back there, and found a middle aged woman so in love with her cell phone, oogling it as if it was the greatest lover she had ever known, and not seeming to be doing any work at all. I asked her about the sausage and she gave a one word reply of: “finished.” Really? It was an hour left before breakfast ended and they are going to start shutting down the options? I went back to my table, and my very disappointed 6 year old who didn’t get to swim other than a few minutes in a few

OMG! If I try to be polite, I would say that this goes to the bottom top-3 hotels I've ever visited. If being honest, this is the worst hotel ever I've visited in my life. Room was not cleaned in ages, worn out is wrongly put, up keeping and maintanence was neglected brutally for years and years. Dirt on the floor, dirty table tops, filthy bathroom, writing on room's wall, hallway smelled **** really heavily, noise came to the room from all the directions, night manager was so creepy that we seriously concidered Changing the hotel during the check-in. There was no breakfest available even though it was advertised to be included. No refund of that of course. But on the upside, after seeing the place, most likely we would have not eaten anything even near the hotel. Next time I rather sleep in my car on Interstate exit ramp than even look towards this place. Shame on you, who ever you are who is running this rathole.

A road trip with my family as a kid in 70s nearly always included a HoJos. The ”vibe” of those places has been retained, but the bad art on the walls that I remember from back then has been replaced with space-age/retro decor; those big, thick curtains that acted as a wall between the room and the nearly floor-to-ceiling window is there, but now with a retro, outer-space design. I found the rich, aqua-blue color scheme calming and welcoming for a good night's sleep.

Staying here in the winter is taxing for anyone with mobility issues. The toilet is too low - seat is at 15-1/2” - 16” from the floor, which is the absolute minimum for anyone. And, if there's any precipitation, e.g., snow, ice, sleet, and it melts then freezes, the parking lot is solid ice. I arrived after an ice storm. Procured my room key from the clerk, then drove to a parking space in front of my room. Couldn't get from my car into the room - it was a sheet of ice. Called the FD - he sent out a very old, frail man to assist me. Well, together, we moved the car to a parking space with less ice around it and eventually got my basic luggage into the hotel. The next morning I couldn't avail myself of the complimentary breakfast because it's served in the same area as the check-in, at the front of the motel. And the parking lot was still a sheet of ice. I couldn't risk slipping and falling. If you don't enjoy walking/sliding/ loading/ unloading your vehicle on ice in the winter, don't stay here until spring or summer or fall.

I am sure at one time this was a nicer hotel, but those days are gone. If all you need is a clean bed and bathroom, this will work. I could list a few disappointments, but you get the idea. Thankful, there are places to eat once you eat you apple or banana.
