This lived up to expectations. The reviews on here were all pretty good, but sometimes reality doesn't quite match, but we were very impressed with our 1 night midweek bed and breakfast stay. Had a lovely 4 poster room in one of the turrets and a super freshly cooked breakfast, all for a very reasonable price. It's a short 12 minute drive into Shrewsbury and so much more character than many of the city hotels, you get to play castles! Would definitely return if in the area and we can imagine this would be a perfect setting for a summer wedding.

We spent our anniversary at Rowton Castle, and from the moment we arrived, it felt like stepping into a fairytale. The setting is stunning – a beautiful blend of history and romance nestled in peaceful, manicured grounds. Our overnight stay was nothing short of perfect. The room was elegant and full of character, with thoughtful touches that made it feel truly special. From the warm welcome to the turn-down service, the attention to detail throughout was outstanding. Dinner was a highlight – each course was beautifully presented and bursting with flavour. The menu was clearly crafted with care, and the staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive without ever being intrusive. Every request was met with a smile, and the service felt effortlessly smooth. It was the perfect romantic escape – peaceful, luxurious, and unforgettable. We left feeling incredibly relaxed and already planning our return. Highly recommend Rowton Castle for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion in style xx

We attended a wedding here last weekend. The venue is superb, the staff were welcoming and did everything to make the whole event run smoothly. The only issue was the wedding breakfast. The main course was superb but the starter was inconsistent with some guests having a better experience than others, the worst was the dessert - completely uncooked, solid pastry throughout a Mille Feuille dessert which was inedible and the staff know this as every person on our table didn’t eat it. We did not complain or let the Bride and Groom know as we didn’t want to spoil their day. Writing this so that the venue can pay more attention to the catering aspect of their offering, it’s hard to imagine that they didn’t know the dessert was a disaster and shouldn’t have been served as it was!

Having had a spate of highly disappointing hotel stays, Rowton castle was refreshingly excellent. The staff go out of their way to make your stay pleasurable. The food is superb. The decor enchanting. I would highly recommend staying in this lovely establishment.

We discovered this hidden gem by chance, and I am so glad that we did. I almost want to keep it a secret as it has a feeling of exclusivity to it. The castle and grounds are magical, the restaurant is divine and the food was excellent. What was even more impressive were the staff. From the moment that we arrived, we were welcomed as if returning guests. The staff are exceptional and should be commended for their warmth and genuine enthusiasm. If you want to escape and recharge your batteries or celebrate a special occasion, this is definitely the place. I have a feeling that we will be regular visitors. Thank you Rowton Castle 🥰

We stayed for one nights in September during a ‘non wedding’ period - apparently this is approximately 30 days a year. Easily found with plenty of parking. Extensive, well maintained grounds in both parkland and a formal style for the outdoor wedding area. Welcoming, friendly and efficient staff throughout. The property is furnished in a mix of pastel/pale country house and traditional ‘baronial’ styles - it worked very well for us with a dislike of modern/minimalistic (and often uncomfortable!) styling. Our traditionally furnished twin room on the top floor was of a decent size, comfortable and clean with an excellent modern bathroom. Please note that there is no aircon for warmer nights. There is no lift, but assistance is offered with bags. The restaurant is a low ceiling traditional wood panelled affair, and it works very well. Proper linen on the tables. As previously stated staff efficient and friendly, no ‘sniffy’ service here. The evening meal was excellent with well cooked/presented high quality ingredients. Some decent wines available at reasonable prices, with some more expensive choices for those so inclined. Breakfast was cooked to order and to a decent standard served by a friendly team of ladies. The comfortable and welcoming lounge (country house style) had wonderfully high ceilings with full length windows offering great views of the well tended gardens. An excellent experience - we just hope that it’s a ‘non wedding’ period when we’re back in the area!

An absolute gem of a hotel and restaurant ! Luxuriously appointed with extensive grounds. Beautiful room with open countryside views. Dinner was extremely good and the chef made a special meal for my husband’s dietary requirements. This was offered not requested. Special mention must be made of the staff who are so friendly and professional. A truly five star experience.
