We ate dinner tonight at the Allerton Inn after looking at the reviews majority of which were 5 star , unfortunately we did not experience the same food wise , the staff were pleasant and the atmosphere and ambience were lovely but we did not experience the 5 star food expectations, my hubby had hake which looked nice on presentation but taste wise was not good at all , the hake was over cooked and tasteless , he was offered some thing else so he chose fish and chips , unfortunately the haddock fish was the same tasteless and thick with batter , the chips were standard nothing special , it was disappointing for both if us I definitely chose the wrong thing I don’t usually eat burger but I thought I’d risk it as it was venison , wrong decisions but my fault , however no excuse for tasteless fish for my hubby , we went away hungry .. very unfortunate, probably won’t go back based on this experience , would love to have had the 5 star we read about

2 night stay here was in the compact and comfortable room 5. Staff were very friendly and efficient throughout. Evening meal choices were interesting, top quality and varied. Breakfast was an equally good selection, freshly made with generous portions. A very informative book in the rooms on the history of the area and places to visit nearby. We were based here to visit the excellent Scottish tapestry in Galashiels and were following the Scottish Tapestry trail.

Relaxed atmosphere, excellent food for evening and morning. Attentive hosts, just a perfect place to visit the Jim Clark area. Breakfast menu was comprehensive and I must mention the best bacon ever. Very clean throughout and plenty of parking.

This is a smashing hidden gem tucked away on the Scottish borders. My room was really comfortable, spotlessly clean and had everything I needed and more. Little bonuses were the quality of the toiletries and the great tea tray. The food was fabulous. I had both breakfast and dinner and was very impressed. My only complaint would be not doing more business in the area as the Allanton Inn is great value and a really lovely place to stay.

Our stay at the Allanton Inn was a joyous experience. We received a warm welcome from our host and were shown to a very comfortable room. The double room had a very comfortable bed, en-suite facilities and plenty of teas, coffees etc for brews. The lovely window seat was a nice touch. Now the food….this was amazing!! The breakfasts using all local ingredients were fantastic. The full ‘Scottish’ including haggis was superb. There was home made jam, home made marmalade, honey from the comb, the attention to detail, outstanding! The evening meals were even better, my wife requires gluten free but that was well covered! You’ll never starve at the Allanton. The bar was great as well. It’s in a perfect location for exploring the coast just a few miles away, so go and enjoy!

A wonderful stay at the Allanton. A warm greeting, lovely room that was clean, well organised, comfy bed, and fabulous shower room with really nice toiletries. There was no problem with noise disturbance and we could relax easily. The breakfasts are wonderful with a really good variety and we were really spoilt for choice; the quality of the food is excellent and the use of local providers is a big plus for us. We also had our evening meal on the first evening there and again, spoilt for choice with a varied menu and excellent quality. There is parking at the front and lovely walks from the village; a great base for exploring this lovely area.

We have recently discovered this place as a convenient stopover between Yorkshire and the Highlands. The room was great, the food fabulous, the locals really friendly and chatty and the icing on the cake, David and Rachel behind the bar who were outstanding.

We had dinner here on Saturday evening. The food was absolutely delicious. Treated great and presented really well. The staff team seemed such a good bunch. Really helpful. I wish it was my local. Unfortunately we were only in the borders for the weekend.

Great stay as always. Friendly staff, fabulous service, clean and comfortable room. Superb food. Look forward to staying again. For some reason Tripadvisor insist on using a minimum of 200 characters hence the extra unnecessary sentence.
