We went with friends . The water they served in bottles was dirty. In the vegetarian chilli there was a bit of plastic paper, most likely reheated frozen food .after mentioning this there was no offer of apology or regret from the team. Miserable food and service

I stayed at Alston house on bank holiday weekend with friends. Our room was perfect, the beds are comfy and the shower is so nice. The homemade food in the restaurant was so tasty, I would recommend the beef lasagne and the Sunday roast. Thank you Mike and Carole!

Amazing stay in a fantastic location at a great quality hotel. Restraunt and pub downstairs was brilliant with a lovely beer garden. Rooms were clean and to a top notch standard. Lots of attention to small details such as the complimentary ginseng shampoo and conditioner!

Great hotel. Lovely staff. Friendly welcome. Good breakfast. Good room, comfy bed, tea / coffee, different biscuits each day, lovely smellies. Great location. Walked part of Hadrian’s Wall on one of days there and the Low Force and High Force Waterfalls on the other; great to head back to the hotel after our hikes and know we could get a fantastic meal in the evening, no need to hunt for somewhere on the way back from our hike. We booked direct and got a great deal. Good value for money.

Carole, the host, is very welcoming and helpful. The food is FABULOUS, great value drinks and a lovely log fire in the bar. The bedrooms are well appointed and beds VERY comfy. Just what we needed after a hard day on the Pennine Way. We overlooked the main road, but there was little road noise and we slept very well indeed. Great range on the breakfast menu.

The owners were lovely, the spot is fantastic, and the restaurant was delightful. It was freezing outside with some unexpected snowfall but we were warm and cozy in the hotel. Would definitely stay again and absolutely eat at the restaurant!

Stayed here for two nights 18th and 19th September 2024. Carole, and the staff are very friendly. Our room was very comfortable, with quality shower gel/shampoo/conditioner, which was a nice touch. Also in the room was a hair dryer. Lot's of tea bags, milk, coffee, selection of sweets, and even kitkats..... We stayed for dinner on both nights, and was not disappointed. The chef produced some tasty meals..... and not forgetting the breakfast which was well stocked, and the Cumbrian Cooked Breakfast is to die for! We were lucky enough to have hot weather (21 deg!!) and so were able to experience the garden, which is private, and a lovely spot to relax in. All-in-all this hotel was worth every penny..... we would definitely recommend it if you are looking to stay in Alston.

Alston House is a brilliant place. It is spacious, homely and comfortable with super rooms, an amazing beer garden, great food, and really lovely staff. Good beer, generous servings, and breakfast was excellent too. We're definitely coming back.
