The Imperial Kushinagar

We stayed here for 1 night during our Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour of India. This hotel is located just down the road from the Stupa which marks the spot where Lord Buddha Sakyamuni attained Mahaparinirvana over 2500 years ago. Kushinagar is one of the 4 major Holy places for Buddhist pilgrims to visit because of this phenomenon. This hotel is also located near the temple of the Reclining Buddha. The entrance foyer and main lobby of this hotel are really impressive! When you walk into the hotel, there is a "WOW" factor there. The rooms are quite basic, but we were shocked that they do not provide a digital safe in the rooms for keeping our valuables(passports & wallets, etc.) In this day and age, a digital safe is a VITAL AMENITY IN EVERY HOTEL!!!!!! We were also disappointed that there wasn't any hot water in the shower, the water from the hot faucet was only lukewarm at best! This is really disappointing, after seeing the impressive main lobby. Our tour package included complimentary breakfast and dinner in the hotel's restaurant. Fortunately, both meals were very good, with plenty of delicious good quality food served to us. The food was the saving grace for this hotel. Kushinagar is a small town, there aren't many good hotels around here, so this is still one of the best that you can get here.

This a large hotel, clean and spacious with a good food menu. What the hotel lacks in character and atmosphere is made up by Harendra and his staff (in particular Satish) in the restaurant. The food off of the menu was excellent. Our room was spacious, very clean with a good bed. The hotel is well located within walking distance of the temples.
