Booking dates: 12th–14th December Rooms booked: 4 Deposit paid: LKR 134,000 We were forced to cancel our trip due to the severe weather conditions and flooding that occurred the week prior to our planned stay. We were travelling with elderly family members (including a wheelchair user) and a young child, and could not take any safety risks under those circumstances. Despite requesting a full refund, only LKR 67,000 was refunded to us. Our friends, who had booked another hotel in Anuradhapura, were genuinely surprised that we did not receive a full refund, especially given the flooding situation. They cancelled their trip under the same conditions and received a full refund, which makes it even more disappointing that this hotel chose to retain LKR 67,000 even during such a severe flooding situation. What made the experience worse was the unprofessional and rude behaviour of the manager, Nilusha. The way he spoke to us was unacceptable. He even stated, “Even foreigners are visiting Anuradhapura, why can’t you come?” — a comment that clearly showed discrimination towards local guests and a complete lack of empathy for families travelling with vulnerable members. We travel to Sri Lanka from overseas every year, and we visit Anuradhapura annually. In all our years of travel across the country, this is the only time we have experienced such rude and disrespectful customer service from a hotel in Sri Lanka, which made this experience even more disappointing. I sincerely hope higher management reviews this feedback and takes the necessary steps to ensure fairer, more empathetic, and more professional handling of guests in the future.
