Serpa Hotel

Serpa Hotel

📍 Via Ardeatina, 264, Anzio
★★★ 8.6 (45 reviews)

"We stayed at this lovely little hotel for 10 nights. We chose Serpa because it gives excellent access to Rome, only an hour away by train from the nearby station Marechiaro. British visitors will be astonished at the low fares and efficient service that Trenitalia offers. We recommend using Trainline to book tickets. Travel into Anzio town and nearby Nettuno is also easy on the local buses, and there’s plenty to see and do. We thoroughly recommend the two beachhead museums and the Anglo-US cemeteries are well worth a visit. It pays to download the free Cotral app to get real-time bus schedules. Practicalities aside, we were very pleased with the service Serpa provides. The hotel is spotlessly clean, and the sea view from the balcony rooms is commanding. The aircon is free and very efficient; there are abundant charging points; the shower is excellent; plenty of storage space, and the bed was comfortable with linen changed every day. Our only criticism is that the Wi-Fi signal is patchy and sometimes erratic, especially if you are outside. Breakfast is served in a dedicated area, and though not sumptuous, the fare on offer is varied and tasty with excellent fresh coffee on request. The reception staff are also extremely helpful (our thanks to Carlotta, Ryan, Paul and Bernadette for their superb service.) Serpa does not have a pool or a bar, although you can order drinks at Reception and add the bill to your room tab. There’s a small supermarket up the hill about 10 minutes away, and a variety of eateries within easy walking distance. So if you are planning to lap up the delights of Rome, or maybe explore the history of the 1944 Anzio landings, Serpa Hotel will not disappoint."

Hotel Parco Dei Principi

Hotel Parco Dei Principi

📍 Via Nettunense, 61, Anzio

"Hotel in the middle of nowhere. No access to bars or restaurants. The nearby restaurant belonged to the hotel and the food was not good. We could not get a taxi from the station but for 10 euros the receptionist picked us up. Reception had 4 small dogs in it which belonged to the hotel and the carpet stank of dog urine. We thought we were going to find an Old Italian hotel. It was shabby and dirty. We were in the annexe in a superior double which was far from superior. Small and dingy with the hardest bed I have ever slept on. That was when I slept the air conditioning kept you awake. The toilet seat was broken and if you sat on it your knees bashed the shower which was mouldy. Breakfast was awful nasty ham and cheese. Toast and pastries. The pool was empty and the site has conflicting dates as to when it is open. In fact only open for 6 weeks a year. We booked for 4 nights and left after one and happy to pay for another hotel to get out of this one."

Hotel Riviera

📍 Riviera Vittorio Mallozzi, 37, Anzio
★★★ 8.4 (37 reviews)

"My only complaint was the bathroom, had a slight odor to it. Smelled stagnant. Very nice location, right across from beach. The young man who was at checkin desk watched my bags for an hour after checkout so I could explore. Didn’t catch his name but he was very friendly. Not a far walk from the train station either, going back to train is uphill however."

Serpa Hotel ★★★
"Friendly helpful staff. Clean and comfortable room. Not many bars/ restaurants in walking distance but the one we did find fit evening ( reggae nights ) was lovely. Daytime there is a seafood restaurant on beach opposite hotel. I don’t like fish but they made me a tomato pasta which was really tasty. My husband had seafood pasta. He said it was the best he had tasted. Good wine too. We walked into Anzio centre to visit war museum. It took about an hour each way. Much quieter than Rome but Anzio had many bars /restaurants"

Hotel Riviera ★★★
"The check in was very poor, the hotel had nothing to offer not even a map of the area or any recommendations. My requests were brushed away being told that would involve them checking and when asked to change the room I was told the hotel does not do that!! Surprising because it was empty, the least they could do is ensure in an empty hotel to allocate a good room and hope to get a good review! The bath room was ok and looked new but it was not cleaned well. As for the rest of the room the sea view was the best part. When joining two twin beds to make a double they could least use a mattress topper in 2025. The first day the breakfast was covered in mosquito. Second day was better. But in a hotel that offers no service just room and a very basic breakfast some attention to detail and effort could go a long way."
