"I had a nice stay at Richmond Hotel. The room was comfortable, clean, and well-appointed, making for a very pleasant experience. Check-in was smooth and efficient, allowing us to settle in quickly. One feature I particularly appreciated was the bathroom, which offered both a separate shower area and a bathtub, giving guests the option of a quick shower or a relaxing soak after a long day of sightseeing. Another aspect I appreciated was the hotel's assistance in arranging for our luggage to be transferred to our next hotel in Tokyo. The process was seamless and hassle-free, allowing us to travel more comfortably without having to carry our large suitcases. I especially love this luggage forwarding service, which is widely available throughout Japan and makes travelling between cities much more convenient. Overall, it was a comfortable and enjoyable stay, and I would happily stay here again."

"Don't let the hotel's unassuming exterior fool you. While the rooms aren't huge, they're incredibly well-equipped, proving that 'good things come in small packages.' The breakfast spread is extensive, with delicious and fresh food. There's a decent-sized hot spring that I visited daily – it was so relaxing and great for my health. Nights were wonderfully quiet, ensuring fantastic sleep. This hotel offers amazing value for money, and the staff are all incredibly friendly. Highly recommended!"

Toyoko Inn Shin-Aomori-Eki Higashi-Guchi
"Less than 5 mins walk to and from JR Shin-Aomori Station (East exit) which also houses the Aomori Tourist Information Centre. I chose to stay near this JR Shin-Aomori station instead of JR Aomori station as the shinkansen doesn’t go to JR Aomori station. I need to take the shinkansen early in the morning on the following day to go to Akita and then transfer to the Akita shinkansen to head to my next accommodation in Tazawako. From JR Shin-Aomori station, it’s convenient to take limited express trains direct to Hirosaki station to visit Hirosaki Castle and Park. It’s also a short journey to JR Aomori station which is where the city centre of Aomori is located. Other than the F&B shops within Shin-Aomori station which close very early around 8pm if I recall correctly, there aren’t any F&B shops around the hotel. Both Family Mart and Lawsons convenience stores are located a few mins walk from the South exit of the train station which is located on the other end of the station."

"If you've stayed at other JAL City hotels, you'll know how good this one is! The staff, in particular, are incredibly attentive, warm, and friendly! The entire room is full of thoughtful and guest-friendly details. I recommend the renovated rooms from 2025 because I saw other reviews mentioning outdated facilities, but the rooms after the 2025 renovation are perfectly fine, and they even have Dyson hairdryers. The evening lounge is also great, and the cider is good. The view from the room window is also very nice."

"I wasn’t expecting that much with this price, but surprisingly good hotel with this price. They serve free beef bowl at night and 550 yen breakfast buffet was very nice. They got some curry and chicken dishes and it was very tasty. Night view was nice and there is Machinaka-Onsen nearby so i strongly recommend to visit there. Room and toilet was very small and very old but it was not that bad. After all i was surprisingly satisfied with this hotel, and i wanna visit there again if i go to Aomori again. 5/5."

"The last ryokan of this Akita/Aomori trip before flying out from AOJ. There are many lodgings in the Asamushi onsen. We actually enjoy this area, it's 20+ minutes drive from Aomori City, so it's a different vibe. The small roads of the highway leading to the ryokan are very narrow with a stone archway that's enough for 1 car to pass by. The parking lot is nearby, the staff was so friendly to help move our luggage from the trunk. Our room is tiny, just enough for 2 futons on a tatami floor plus 2 chairs and a coffee table. Our room is on the 2nd floor with no view. The staff will come in and set up the futon beds when we're at the dining room, and put them away in the morning. The walls are rather thin, we could hear the arguments a few rooms away (drunk?). There's a gallery on the first floor. Our package includes kaiseki dinner, and the food is quite good, although compared to the other 4 this trip, it ranks near the bottom. The pace was not good, we had to check with the staff a few times as we waited for our next dish. She also forgot about my beer. There was no explanation of our dish. The on-site onsen is adequate, it's smaller with limited amenities, for example no toothbrush, comb, small towel, etc. The outdoor onsen is quite small with no views, surrounded by walls."

"The room was spacious enough. It's a bit far from the JR station, about 150 by taxi. There are also buses, so if it's not snowing, taking the bus is an option. There are plenty of local eateries within a 10-minute walk. I recommend Tengu Yakiniku; their food is excellent."

"I couldn't find any rooms in Aomori during the Aomori Festival. I could only book the Asamushi Onsen Hotel. This place is 20 minutes away from Aomori Station by train. The facilities are very old and have not been renovated for a long time. The service staff is very good, but the food in the hot spring hotel is very ordinary. It is not a one-night stay with two meals. The festival premium is too much."

"Stayed here with my son and his wife. The log house style hotel, from the entrance to the lobby to the restaurant, may not be large, but it has a dignified feel, and there are plenty of photo spots. It was supposed to be full that day (Saturday), but it was extremely quiet, giving the impression that there were a lot of people. The room (standard twin) is spacious and has sufficient furniture and equipment. (Early morning) The view of the morning mist through the window is an art. For dinner, we enjoyed a refreshing French meal that used less sauce to bring out the flavors of the ingredients, and we thoroughly enjoyed the ingredients from Aomori. Drink service is a bit slow, but as soon as you look up you can see the staff, so it's not an inconvenience. Also, the white bread and (hard) croissants for breakfast are the best. The quality of the hot springs is different from Sukayu Onsen (which is free for hotel guests, so you should definitely go), but it's stimulating enough (my face was stinging). The cypress-made bathroom wasn't very large, but it didn't feel crowded and I was able to relax. The staff's response was modest but professional, and when I returned from going out, I was handed my room keys (for 2 rooms) before I even got to the front desk, and for the first time in a while I felt like we were having ``tacit communication.'' I did. Overall, it is a comfortable resort hotel where you can relax even though there is no customary hospitality."

"The hotel's location is excellent; you can take the elevator directly up from the JR station. The front desk staff are all very kind and friendly, especially one gentleman who speaks Chinese. The entrance design for the ladies' public bath is a bit odd, lacking sufficient privacy, and the changing room area feels a bit cramped. The lounge on the same floor offers beautiful views, facing the sea, and you can see A-Factory and other Aomori landmarks directly. The lounge provides drinks and even small snacks in the evening. There's an ice cream freezer next to the front desk, which is perfect after a bath. The hotel also offers activities like yoga and Pilates, which I didn't get a chance to try this time. Although it was the most basic room type, we were on the 10th floor with great views. On our second day, we saw a huge rainbow and even experienced an earthquake – a truly unforgettable experience! I would definitely choose to stay here again when I visit Aomori."
