I rarely leave a negative review but the stay here was disappointing. I was left shaking my head at all the rave reviews and feel obligated to provide balance. The location was just outside the hub of activity. That has pluses and minuses. You need to drive to the town center for restaurants and shopping... and parking there can be a bit challenging. But we knew that going in... no complaint there. The room... #211... upstairs on the second level with an outside entrance, was a plus for us. HOWEVER, when we opened the door upon arrival, the stench of frebreeze or floral-scented cleanser was overpowering. Neither of us are particularly sensitive to odors but this was literally choking us. We had to prop open the door for the first two hours. There was virtually no other way to ventilate the room. Underneath our room, opposite the base of the stairs, was a room with 4 young men. They honored the 'no smoking in rooms' policy by stepping outside to smoke but, guess what? Our room above them, with our door propped open, drew their smoke.... both tobacco and ****. Now we had a floral-****-cigarette smell floating into our room. Bathroom lighting was poor; Bathroom door actually rubbed against the toilet when opening or closing; Toilet tank lid was cracked. Just an overall poor impression. We couldn't get the refrigerator to cool. Unfortunately we had placed food in it the first night thinking it was on. We noticed it immediately though and turned it to high. We figured it would go on and we'd be fine. The next day, we added a couple of other things to the fridge and found that it had never gone on and that the tray had filled with water and seeped all over the food. Still wasn't cooling. We were leaving so we reported it to the desk and hit the road. The best part of our stay was the friendly, helpful breakfast staff member. What a lovely person! For the price, $403.92 for two nights, midweek during the slow season, it isn't worthy of the rating. We have stayed at Best Westerns before and we will likely stay at Best Westerns again... but I'll keep a better eye on the reviews.
