Motel 6 Arcata, CA – Cal Poly Humboldt

Okay for one night.

This place is a dive. Like, it's bad. The floor was dirty. Don't look under the bed sheets. The pool wasn't open, might not ever be open? Homeless people gather around here. The housekeepers were all really nice and helpful, anyone at the front desk was not.

Fridge was broken. No staff in the lobby just a teleprompter with a webcam. Shady ass people that live there on site and let dogs run around without a leash or collar. Sketchy area. Room was dirty and towels were stained. Not safe at night people loitering around.

Book this hotel. Don’t let the low prices fool you. Rooms and property are very clean, and all looks new. Amenities are not in abundance at any motel 6, but the coffee machine in the lobby was great and the check-in kiosk was really cool. They are simple rooms but they are nice. Fridge and microwave and shower all works great. Bed seems new also which was really nice since having a bad back. The soap in the bathroom smells good too. All the staff I’ve seen seem pretty great, the front desk agents are very professional and competent and it’s honestly refreshing, and the housekeepers are super nice and do a great job. You won’t be disappointed.

This was a Motel 6, we were not expecting luxury, the rooms were small, but functional and sufficiently clean. The biggest issue was checking in, they have some sort of computer screen with a, "virtual front desk" which had me input all my information, including scanning my ID, to only then tell me that I couldn't check us in since the room was booked under my spouse's name. Thankfully they were in the car, but if not then what? And then we still had an issue due to my ID having been scanned already. The actual person at the desk, (who I can only assume is there watching her job be taken by a screen while they work out the bugs) then took over and was lovely and helpful and got us all squared away, but it all seemed unnecessarily frustrating at 10pm after a long day of travel.

This was price gouging over 300 dollars to stay here on a Friday in May. Pismo beach #1 destination in California Motel 6 was only about 200 dollars. Why? Pool was closed. No free breakfast. If the other hotels are so expensive why.

Hotel rooms looked like recently renovated but they are tiny. 2 queen beds barely fit side by side. No coffee maker in the room and no common area with amenities like coffee or tea. Walls are very thin as we could hear the alarm on next room going on. Staff was Ok. Not rude but not very friendly or helpful. Just the bare minimal. For a Motel 6 with this conditions it was totally overpriced over $230/ night.
