What can I say we paid £450.00 for a 2 night stay in a Superior room and it was so dark we had to have the lights on in the day. I expected to at least a little day light, the picture on their website shows a bright room with 2 big windows, we had a tiny rectangle window at the top of the wall and when you stood on your tip toes the view was of the roof! We expected paying the extra to stay in a superior room we would have a picture of the moat at the very least and daylight, not a Cave. We arrived on Friday evening and had booked a table in the restaurant by the fire as it was minus 3 degree’s, only the fire had gone out and there was a very clear sign stating you were not allowed to stoke the fire and to ask a member of staff which we did twice but no one attended to it. We were celebrating our anniversary and ordered a bottle of Prosecco upon been seated, the waitress bought it over, didn’t even show us the bottle and opened it and poured it and it was Rose, we had ordered White Prosecco it’s £40.00 a bottle, it’s only £35.00 at the Malmaison in Birmingham. We didn’t want to kick up a fuss as it was our anniversary and we just wanted to enjoy the evening so we agreed to accept it as it had been opened. My partner has dined at the restaurant a few years previously and was excited about the food, as he is a bit of foody but he was very disappointed, I don’t eat steak or seafood so there was only Chicken I could eat and there was one option a chicken burger which I had for £20.00 and it was half a plate, it was bland there wasn’t even a salad or any vegetables just a tiny burger, chicken with breadcrumbs it wasn’t even half a chicken breast and a handful of French fries. The next morning on Saturday, we had paid extra for breakfast at a cost of £30.00 each day, my partner ordered the full English which was good, I have a number of allergies so asked just for some sausages, bacon and grilled tomatoes. When the plate arrived, there was 1 Sausage, 1 rasher of Bacon and 2 grilled small Tomatoes for £15.00 which was pretty shocking for £15.00, I was been penalised for having allergies. I was that embarrassed and again didn’t want to ruin our anniversary weekend by complaining I said nothing. We even had to ask for toast, sauces and Water to be brought over as they were not even offered. The staff are all 18-20 year olds with no clue about customer service or how to serve people, massive training needs are required urgently at this establishment. We saw the advert for afternoon Tea and went to reception to book, and were told it was full. My partner said we are residents and have paid over £450.00 to stay for 2 nights can you double check, the receptionist went and asked the Chef and he said NO, couldn’t even squeeze us in absolutely disgusting we were very unhappy. And then it went from bad to worse we made the mistake of eating again in the restaurant again, the service was worse than the night before but at least the fire was act
