"We booked 3 nights at this hotel and I was a bit apprehensive having read previous reviews but what a wonderful, positive surprise. We were picked up at the train station by the hotel courtesy service. Greeted by the reception staff and offered a welcome Prosecco or soft drink and snack. The room with large balcony overlooking the spectacular scenery was very nice indeed, including outdoor futniture. The room was spacious, extremely clean, modern, very comfortable bed, little bouquet of fresh flowers, selection of fresh fruits and sweets. A kettle was provided on request. Bathroom was large with all amenities. Breakfast was super with selection of fresh fruits, yoghurts, muesli, cereals, cold meats and cheeses, salmon, eggs, pastries and more. We had dinner in the hotel two nights (because the first night was so good) and the choice as well as the food was excellent. Compliments to the chef and his team. The gardens are beautifully maintained with sun loungers dotted around as well as around the pool area also with magnificent view. There is a very pretty pergola with outdoor seating where you can enjoy food or drinks overlooking the pool and wonderful scenery beyond. I paid particular attention to the staff due to previous reviews and found them somewhat surly although helpful and professional. However, we did get a bright smiley good morning from a guy who hoovering the corrider which compensated nicely. Also the lady who greeted us at breakfast and dinner was very friendly and chatty (I think she is a member of the family who owns the hotel) which I think is a nice touch. The hotel is located about 10 minutes walk down to Ascona centre and lake, probably a 15 minutes steep walk back up which we enjoyed as a form of exercise. The hotel provides a courtesy shuttle service on request also to and from Locarno train station We have visited this hotel a few times over the years and it just gets better and better. Well done team Ascona! We are already looking forward to the next visit and highly recommend it. A few more smiles from the staff, a show of friendliness and it would be perfect."

"The hotel is in the center, close to the lake. We had a very nice panoramic view from the cosy balcony. Room was very clean, breakfast diverse and very good. It has a restaurant and a terrace on the roof, with panoramic view. We had a very pleasant stay of 2 nights."

"😊4 night stay ( April 28th). Great service from walking in the door on the 28th to departing on May 2nd😊👍.. Everything about Casa Berno is 1st class ⭐.. Spotless throughout, with a level of service that was equally ⭐... It is easy to see why Ulrike, who manages the restaurant ,has been at the hotel for over 30 years..in a word she was outstanding!😊. "Hotel is located in very good location. Little hotel with careful staff. Breakfast was very good with a nice garden restaurant. Rooms without air conditioning, which can be rather a little pushing in summer. For that, clean and the rooms size is ok. Ideal to spend a few days in the Swiss sunstube."

"Perfect location in Ascona. We had a good sized room with a lovely view of the lake and promenade. Each floor has a different colour theme we were on the top floor which was red. Breakfast was very good with amongst other things freshly squeezed orange juice and eggs made to order. The restaurant was busy and staff attentive. We really enjoyed our five night stay and will return to Albergo Carcani on our next visit to Ascona"

"The Jazz Hotel is a cheaply furnished hotel in a central location in Ascona. The rooms are cheaply furnished and soundproof. We booked through a reputable booking platform. For a full week's stay, we were given the worst and noisiest room in the hotel, right next to reception with loud music and opposite the breakfast room and a freely accessible coffee machine. This meant no sleeping in and no privacy. We therefore asked for a quieter room. For an additional charge of CHF 250 (!), we were able to move into the same cheaply furnished, small room on a different floor. I'm unclear as to why we were charged this extra fee; it was supposedly an upgrade. The bathroom is old and very small, so you often end up hitting yourself. The shower was very small and calcified. The breakfast room has the ambiance of a train station waiting room. The breakfast is straightforward and always the same, served carelessly with lots of ready-made products. There wasn't fresh bread, rolls, or croissants every day, and stale sausage, cheese, and Bircher muesli were offered every day. Conversation in the breakfast room was almost impossible due to the noisy refrigerated counter. This was by far the worst place I've ever spent my time in, and the price was definitely not cheap. Never again."

"This is a gorgeous more modern resort hotel with service that is exactly what a luxury resort should be in a beautiful location. We enjoyed our stay immensely even though it rained during most of our time in Ascona. The promenade and shopping area of the small town of Ascona is lovely and an easy walk from the hotel. From the complimentary private pickup from the Locarno train station which we arranged in advance, to the drive to the ferry dock for our next stop, the service was flawless. The room was beautiful, with plenty of space to unpack and store things with all the modern conveniences. The bathroom was large with one of the best showers ever. The only tiny hiccup were the door locks which can be rather tricky until you get the knack, but we were told that they will be changing that this winter. They have numerous restaurant choices and we ate at three of the four choices. The Marina, was very good. The Cassetta, which we reserved had to close because it was outdoor dining and raining, and we were immediately informed by the staff and given other options. The two Michelin star La Brezza restaurant was very special, and a most enjoyable evening with magnificent food. The chef who came out to speak with us was delightful as was everyone we spoke with. One of our top two meals we have ever had and worth the high cost. Our least favorite was the Eden Roc restaurant, but that had a superb salad bar, and was where the excellent breakfast buffet was served in the morning. The bar area both indoors and outdoors was centrally located and a wonderful place to relax, often with a piano player and one who was a delightful vocalist. There were many sitting areas throughout the resort which also worked very well for us because of the weather. The indoor outdoor pool with jacuzzi area was great. This is a fine case of you get what you pay for, and although the cost is high, we had no complaints and enjoyed our time there. We recommend."
