Hotel Fitzroy Curated by Fable

It is not recommended to stay. Although it is a five-star hotel, the design is very average. The hotel is really not big. I thought the internal facilities would be more sophisticated, but there are no sanitary facilities. They are like four-star hotels. The most disgusting thing is when I checked in, I met an Indian. When I arrived, no one was there. I went upstairs to look for it and saw someone chatting in the small room (he was in it). He didn't even ask a word. I thought they were all residents. It took half an hour for him to come down. I asked him if he was upstairs. He said yes. I said I didn’t see it when I went up. He lied and said he didn’t see it. I was very angry and said you just saw it. He changed his story and said he didn’t know I was a guest. I said I wanted to complain. He actually said he was the manager or the owner of this hotel. I'm speechless The next day I saw other employees and asked, and they confirmed that he was completely lying. When I picked up my luggage, they gave me a small gift with a small card inside, and asked me to complain to the manager. I wrote a complaint letter estimated to be a thousand words long. But they won't fire that sb-named Sam because he has NZ status and is considered local. They can only wait for him to resign on his own. simply outrageous The breakfast in the hotel is good. It is delivered to the room. If you want to take a picture of the breakfast, you can try it. But I didn’t experience the service at all.
Verandahs Parkside Lodge

We're lucky to have Vehrandas's where it is: an affordable backpackers in a great spot in well renovated buildings not far from public transport and an easy walking distance to eateries, parkland and more. I've stayed here a few times now; it's my go to place in Auckland. The staff have always seemed friendly and helpful. Improvement wise, there's only one thing I can think of: as new renovations are carried out (eg: 1st floor bathrooms on the reception building) the owners, like most, are getting LED lighting fitted. Often this is too bright and the wrong colour temperature, making use of the facilities uncomfortable at night and having a very real effect on sleep (exposure to bright blue-white light at night can put the sleep cycle back by hours). My suggestion there is that the owners pay particular attention to the brightness and colour temperature of the LED lights they're fitting: they should be warm white (2600-3000 kelvin) rather than daylight white or cool white. This would not cost any more, and would help maintain the warm and homely ambience that Vehrandah's already mostly has.

Wow, from pulling up to the Hotel and seeing the run down building to the interior musty cigarette smell and then the rude girl at the counter, we didn’t have high hopes. This was confirmed when we had to call police as there was no answer from reception to assist with an incident occurring on site. This was understandably out of the Hotel’s control but why is there no after hours service and also no sympathy given we had 1 hour sleep. Mouldy ceilings, windows that are so broken they do not shut, and fearing for safety. Would never recommend.
Bavaria Boutique Hotel

Brilliantly located with just a 15min wander down Valley Rd & Walters Rd to Eden Park it takes all the hassle out of going to the game. There’s also plenty of eateries on Boundary Rd there was no need for us to get in our car. Free parking is a real bonus. Robert the host & his lovely wife Bess are the best hosts you could wish for. The decor and actual building are both quite tired but they do their absolute best to present these in the best manner possible. Clean, tidy, organised, and nothing is too much trouble. I think it’s all you need and we’ll definitely be back.
