I needed to stay in the Bagshot area on family business for one night, and this Premier Inn seemed to fit the bill – so I booked it with an offered Meal Deal. I arrived at about 1515, reception were efficient and pleasant, and went to my room. This Premier Inn is an old hotel or big pub, probably from the 1950s, with the rooms upstairs, no lift, in a maze of interlocking corridors. My room was a reasonable size, plain but clean, as was the bathroom. It was no surprise given the building’s age to find no aircon, but there is no central heating either. The room had a small wall mounted electric heater, controlled by a separate wall mounted thermostat – which on arrival read 15 degrees Centigrade! I’m as keen on fresh air as anyone, but leaving the window open when the outside temp is 5C isn’t very sensible – sigh….. I closed the window, and sat for 15 minutes in my coat checking emails, but luckily needed to go out again for a while, and on my return at 1900 the gallant little heater had raised the room temperature to a balmy 20C! Then went to dinner – a quiet Monday. Staff were friendly and efficient, and dinner was a perfectly good if basic grill. For breakfast the next day I had the continental version – again basic but perfectly good – I didn’t try the cooked options. Overall a reasonable if rather ordinary one-night utility stop – but please be more careful about windows in the winter, and it would be a good idea to make it clear that most rooms are upstairs with no lift.
