Mercure Newbury West Grange Hotel

Bad nights stay Not a good stay in first room as smelly, something like cigarettes. Reception staff knocked on door 5 minutes after going innthe room asking if okay, they agreed the room did have a smell and was moved. The next room had a generator room on the other side of the wall that kept going off and was noisy, reported to reception and moved yet again to a ground floor room. Unfortunately about 15 minutes later a generator right outside the room kicked in and thought this would be noisy throughout the night and would wake me up, i then went back to reception again and told them of the problem and wanted a room without these issues. I was then told the only room available was the first room that had the smell and they can look at giving me another room the following day, the only good news was that i diid get a better room the next day which was okay. Not a great experience in having to change rooms so many times in one evening, complaint raised and not resolved as the hotel seems to think it was accepted to change rooms so many times. I won't be staying here again.

Good solid stay at a very clean hotel with good unobtrusive staff service. Not sparkling, but good all round.
