We had a very disappointing and distressing stay at Lotus Desaru Beach Resort & Spa and will not be returning. We ended up eating only at the resort because there are no other food options nearby, which makes the quality and safety of their food even more critical.
The problems started the moment we entered our room: it was not cleaned properly, and we even found clothes from the previous guest still hanging in the wardrobe. This is completely unacceptable for any hotel, let alone a family resort.
On Day 2, while having a meal at the resort restaurant, we saw a young boy vomiting in the middle of the dining area. At first, we thought it might just be that the child was unwell for unrelated reasons. However, by that evening, all four of us became sick with clear symptoms of food poisoning. We had to visit APM Clinic to see a doctor and get medication, and our condition was bad enough that we decided to cut our trip short and leave the next morning.
Breakfast was another terrible experience. The food quality was poor, the hygiene did not inspire confidence, and the junior staff seemed badly trained and overwhelmed. Having what felt like over a thousand guests trying to have breakfast in the same place at the same time made it crowded, noisy, and extremely uncomfortable.
Given the combination of poor room cleanliness, lack of alternative food options, serious concerns about food hygiene that left our entire family ill, and the overcrowded, badly managed breakfast, I strongly recommend that you avoid this place.
