Terrible experience – avoid this hotel! During my trip to Egypt, I visited several cities and had many wonderful experiences — but unfortunately, our stop at Royal Hotel in Asyut was by far the worst. We were forced to stop there due to a sandstorm while on the road. We had checked room availability and prices online beforehand, but once we arrived, the staff suddenly tripled the price just because we were tourists. We had no other option and reluctantly accepted. The manager didn’t even have the decency to speak to us directly — he gave instructions from his office and made his employee tell us that we had to pay in US dollars, even though they had initially agreed to accept euros and Egyptian pounds. Even after agreeing to the overpriced rate, they added more charges on top. The room was an absolute disaster. The entire hotel was dirty, poorly maintained, and neglected. The windows were covered with plastic film, the building was falling apart, and the room was filthy. The included breakfast was a joke — we had to pay extra just for a cup of coffee. To summarize: this was a horrible experience. I stayed in several luxury hotels across Egypt for much less than what we paid here. Charging tourists more is one thing — but offering such poor quality and lack of cleanliness is unacceptable. I truly feel sorry for the employees working there and hope they find better working conditions soon.
