We absolutely love coming to 1863! The rooms are comfortable , the food sublime and the staff are first rate! Some of the dishes we have eaten here have been the very best we have tasted and have exceeded some of those we have experienced in Michelin starred restaurants. Team 1863 definitely deserve all the awards they have been achieved .

We stayed in room 6 which was great and has a lovely bathroom everything spotless clean and the breakfast was amazing. Highly recommend this hotel and we will be definitely come back. Pooley Bridge never been before but a gem of a place not to far to walk to see the lake.

Absolutely amazing stay at 1863 last weekend. Superb king sized room fitted to a very high specification. We specifically booked here for an overnight stay and meal on our way back to Warwickshire from a trip to Edinburgh. As it was my wife’s birthday we were looking for something a bit special and the meal did not disappoint! Lovely staff, small car park attached oh and an amazing breakfast as well! Keith Jones

This was our 5th or 6th visit to 1863 and they still impress with the quality of the service, welcoming and friendly staff, overall environment and especially the food, which is fantastic and at a very reasonable price given the quality of thought, ingredients and presentation involved …will definitely return again in the coming months. Excellent food and service. The taster menu is a must. Great choice of wines. Friendly and approachable staff. Extremely clean and comfortable room. Ideal location for hiking; in particular, the Ulswater Circular Challenge and quite a few Wainwrights. Within walking distance of the lake and ferry. Highly recommend this place.

Absolutely stunning place! The Gable suite is just amazing… comfy bed, luxury toiletries, spacious, probably the nicest room we’ve stayed in! It’s pure class. Restaurant is decorated beautifully, whilst still feeling very homely. It is immaculately cleaned! We had the 7 course taster menu, that was impeccably served and the breakfast is to die for! Highly recommend 1863 and would love to stay again!

Stunning dinner, well informed and welcoming staff. Room was spacious and very comfortable. Bathroom large and well equiped. Bed, pillows, towels and lovely bathroom products all wonderful. Great breakfast, lots of choices, eggs done to perfection.

Stayed in the Gables superior suite for two nights. Room was spacious and beautifully decorated. Really enjoyed the food. Staff attentive and made you feel very welcome. My husband left his jacket in the room and Phil and his team are going above and beyond to post it back to us.
