Holiday Inn Express & Suites Berkeley

Berkeley|3.55km from city centre
The property i manage had damage as a result of the Atmospheric river on last Tuesday and a water pipe was broken by a fallen tree. Despite my best efforts the damage had still not been fixed on Sunday and a tenant asked if they could be put up at a hotel. I gave them two choices one of which was Holiday Inn. The tenant called the one on University Avenue in Berkeley and was told that there was a three day stay minimum. They were also quoted a rate 0f $209 a night. When I called I was told $169 a night and $159 a night with AAA discount and no minimums. I gave the girl my credit card and she swiped it and it was approved. All she told me to do was to give the tenants my AAA card number so I could get the discount when they checked in. My tenants went to the hotel and were told that there was no reservation either under their name or mine. I gave them the confirmation number given me by the girl who answered the phone. They found the reservation. Then they were told that they would have to give them their credit card so they could run it and pay for the reservation in advance of checking out ”just in case.” They were told if they wanted to use my credit card I would have to come down there that night, not the next morning, and have him swipe my card and if I did not come, he was going to kick the tenants out. Thus, I had to get out of bed at 10:30 at night and go to Berkeley. When I get there he tells me that he is going to charge my card that night for the two night stay. I told him I had already been charged and he said that he had canceled the charge because I did not accompany the tenants at checkin. Neither of us were told that I had to accompany them and being a business traveler I know that not to be true. When he gave me the receipt, he had changed the terms because I got new terms when he canceled the previous reservation and they had had an increase in demand. (The parking lot was only half full). When I asked for a copy of the receipt, which I was entitled too since he was charging me to check out before I even checked in, he refused to give it to me, telling me to ”take a picture.” I will never use this hotel again.

Howard Johnson by Wyndham Berkeley

I've stayed at a lot of budget hotels in my day, so I'm used to being ignored, but I was pleasantly surprised at the service here. The manager saw we had small children and went out of his way to move us to a bigger room at no charge. He even offered to help with our luggage, which was a first! Cleaning staff were similarly kind and friendly. It is still a budget hotel, so don't expect the Ritz, but the rooms are clean and have been updated/painted recently, the AC and wifi work great, and it's a safe and convenient location. Plus you can't beat the price. I've never written a hotel review before, but I genuinely want this place to succeed. Good luck guys, and thanks for the great stay!

Breakfast is simple, but it can also be full. The house is old, the sound is not good, and the price is relatively reasonable in this location. Berkeley Student Residence is 2-3 km away.
DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Berkeley Marina

It's an old resort hotel, and the room alone looks a bit shabby, but the bed is still comfortable. But when I went to the restaurant for dinner, I looked around and realized that it was indeed a resort hotel. When I had breakfast, the view of the yacht pool outside the window was beautiful. Parking is also very convenient. You need to swipe your card in and out of the parking lot. Coupled with the location of the resort, there are few outsiders entering, so parking is very safe. But you need to check in first, and then drive to the building where you live to unload your luggage, because there are four or five buildings in the resort, which are very large. The most noteworthy thing is that you must buy breakfast included, which is served from 6:30-10:00. A very authentic American breakfast. Everyone orders from the menu. The typical eggs benny breakfast, Omlet, and Oatmeal are all available, as well as coffee and orange juice. A serving is worth 25+ yuan including tax, so just give me a breakfast coupon, but because someone is serving you, you need to tip for breakfast. If you don't give it, you will be reminded.
Residence Inn by Marriott Berkeley

The location is convenient, close to BART and in the center of town; the room is large and you can cook your own meals; there is free breakfast every day; but there is no service. Maybe in the United States, extra tips are required for services.
Berkeley City Club Hotel

Very old American style, the rooms are clean and tidy. Because of the old style, the facilities in the room are different from the modern ones. The room size, bed and bathroom are smaller. Breakfast is an ordinary American breakfast, a variety of bread jams and coffee and juice, very convenient. It would be better if the price could be cheaper. The key is to be too close to the University of California, Berkeley, to go to school to work or visit relatives should be a good choice.
Nash Hotel

The hotel is located in Berkeley city center, very close to UC Berkeley campus, the BART station and many restaurants. The hotel building is a bit old but functions well. The front door of the hotel is locked all day, and you will be given a key to enter the building. This makes one feel safe and quite comparing to the motels in the around area. Check in and out was easy and fast. I stayed in a queen bed room with shared bathroom. The room is not big, looks basic, but with all necessary stuff, even with a microwave. The bed was comfortable. The sink in the room is also convenient. The curtain in the room is not big enough to protect privacy. I hope this can be improved. The shared bathrooms were cleaned everyday. Each floor has two shared bathrooms, so most of the time you don't need to wait. The shower room is a bit small though. Generally hotel rooms in bay area are very expensive. If you don't mind to share the bathroom, this hotel is definitely the best deal you will find in Berkeley city center. Of course, the hotel also has rooms with private bathroom, at a price comparable to other motels in the area. Would recommend this hotel if you have a limited budget.
