Boutique Hotel Mittendrin Berlin

I think people really have to understand that, although the rooms are spacious, the beds are not comfortable. You have to walk up 3 to 4 flights of stairs to get to the hotel and you require two sets of keys which you cannot lose to get in. It is in an OK area, but certainly not the most convenient. The Internet is spotty at best. The air conditioning is nonexistent basically. It is an old 1970s or earlier appartment that has been renovated. The host of the breakfast are quite nice. But certainly I cannot believe this is rated the top hotel in Berlin.

I do not write a lot of reviews but when the situation warrants, I feel obliged to praise when praise is due. Fortune was mine for being able to squeeze a return trip to Berlin amid my late-summer voyage. Mittendrin was my home for a quick two-night stay in Berlin this past August. But I only had two days to explore this huge and important city. I had to run around all over the city, in my fool’s attempt to do it all. What a pleasure, at the end of the day, to go up the staircase and beyond thick walls, past the sturdy wooden doors into the rooms of the Mittendrin whenever making my return from a sightsseeing marathon. Hours of walking each day, nonstop reading and stopping, crossing canals and boulevards, up museum steps and across city parks. Imagine my delight at returning to my charming lemon refuge, a little like Van Gogh’s bedroom to be honest, to the comfy bed and the magic window that managed to offer soothing cool air while repelling city noise despite, yes, being in the center of it all. Places like the Mittenrin are the stuff of tales. It’s been over two months since my stay there in Berlin but the experience left an indelible mark. Sometime at night, when anxious feelings invade, and the need to dispel negative thoughts or stress delays sleep, I recall that beautiful little yellow room in my mind and peace and solace reign. Thank you, Sabine!

mittendrin means in the midst of things, and this hotel certainly is. We Americans might characterize it as a Bn'B, but it is closer to the European penzione that that, truly a home away from home. The owner-operator is Sabiné, a retired actress and committed innkeeper/hostess/salonie'rre: enthusiastic, charming, empathetic, caring, lavish breakfast provider, delightful. The four hotel rooms are spacious and fully appointed, some with baths, two expected to share. Lots of freebies thrown in. Good wi-fi. One drawback for some folks are a flight of a dozen or so steps up to apts from the elevator. Other than that, a flawless base of operations in the Charlottenburg area of Berlin and easy-walk to all public transport.

My family had a wonderful time exploring Berlin and staying at the Mittendrin-Boutique Hotel, which offered a perfect location to explore the center of the city and beyond. Sabine provided thoughtful recommendations based on our interests and unique requests. My Type A family appreciated her thoroughness; you were never left with questions about the house or its operations. She provided a stunning breakfast each morning, which we enjoyed in the presence of her warm, enthusiastic company. This hotel is meticulously decorated, well-equipped, clean, and inclusive of other international guests. Downsides include some noisiness outside at night (expected in any large city) and accessibility (might be tough for anyone who has trouble with stairs, though elevator available for many flights). For any social guest, our family strongly recommends staying here and feel Sabine's charming oasis offers a welcome contrast to a very urban Berlin.

Saline and her hosting skills were truly delightful. The room was stunning with some wonderful antique furniture. The location was fantastic. I've never stayed in a place like this before. We met 3 other groups of travellers from Norway, Paris & Japan. The interaction with other guests over a welcome drink and over breakfast was a fantastic experience. Sabine was (I cannot stress enough) key to our wonderful stay. Her hosting skills are what makes this place incredible. We've told everyone about it since our stay! & I've finally gotten round to writing a review on here.

Super triveligt intimt hotell Vi fant frem til mittendrin boutike hotell, very nice rooms,very kleen, fresh flowers and chocolade. When we shequed inn vi got served white vine. The other gest that we met at breakfast was very nice people, just like a big family.
