This hotel is in the perfect location in the centre of Beverley. The decor is a bit dated but perfectly adequate for the price we paid. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again.

Second visit to this hotel and the first since it left the Best Western group, read a few reviews and feared the worst, thinking standards may have dropped. Basically nothing has changed , the parking is still free, and warm reception was given on arrival. We had arrived early so our room was understandably not ready and we were advised it would be ok for 2pm so we went out for a beer or several in the many local friendly pubs. On our return at around 5pm check in was easy, quick & friendly we were on the upper floor in room 17. The room was spacious clean with a good sized bathroom and good shower. Sadly the room was freezing, the heating wasn’t working upstairs and we later learnt that the high winds had blown out the boiler, the young lady on reception gave us a electric fan which took off the chill but didn’t really warm the room sufficiently. So getting ready for our night out wasn’t particularly comfortable . We enjoyed a lovely night out on the town and on our return the Friday night Jazz group were in full swing. To be fair sleep was ok despite the room temperature ( we turned off the fan due to the noise) , breakfast in the morning was lovely , well cooked and presented with the addition of the pleasant gentleman who was serving us. Overall we enjoy this hotel for its location, parking and lovely staff, if you are expecting a modern , sleek establishment then I suggest you look elsewhere, this is a time warp from years gone by with old worldly charm & character. Despite the frost bite we have rebooked and look forward to our next visit

Firstly the good stuff, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the “Full English” breakfast was delicious. The Lairgate is a historic building ideally located for the centre of Beverley, a few steps away from the Town square, but It is in need of more than a little “TLC”, both the exterior and interior are looking a little shabby, but you can see the former glory of the building. We stayed for one night in Room 4, to the rear of the building on the first floor. Again the room is dated, the mattress is well past it’s useful life and needs urgently replacing, we did report this but were informed nobody had complained before, sorry but I just cannot believe that, there is simply no support in it whatsoever. The armchair in the room needs throwing away, a heavy sweat stain mark on the head is simply not acceptable. I have noted a similar comment from a previous occupant of that room in these reviews. Generally the room was just not up scratch, the shower gel receptacles in the bathroom were empty, yes we could have asked for refills but we shouldn’t have had to. Only one large towel was provided, yes we could have asked for a second, but we shouldn’t have asked to. Bedding was old and tired, the bed poorly made and just didn’t feel clean, we did note blood stain in the bottom sheet. Heating to the room was not switched on when we arrived and I had to ask at reception for it to be activated, again just attention to detail. Furniture in the room is very dated and the glass mirror “table tops” are horrendous, and must be an absolute nightmare for the staff to clean. The hotel needs some serious investment if it is to survive, it has huge potential but is just not being maintained or improved, I’m sure the staff try their best but it is being run with minimal manning and they simply cannot adequately cover all the tasks required. Management was not present, we would like to have addressed our grievances directly rather than go “public”

Having booked a double room with twin beds, we were dismayed to discover on arrival that there wasn't one. Instead we were offered a musty smelling room with a double bed and a large sofa. At no point were we offered any proper apology and there was no offer of compensation for nearly ruining our visit. Since we have contacted both the hotel and Best Western, but neither can offer any help. In fact the hotel doesn't reply to any of our messages. Looking at the photos on website, they are very out of date. The room we had to take has deteriorated in decor and fittings. I'm sorry to say that I would not recommend anyone to stay here.

Having booked on the Best Western site. Two days before arrival I got an email saying they would honour the booking terms etc. This is a dated hotel located in Beverley close to the town centre. On Friday night there was a Jazz night, reasonable number attended. Having met a few friends that night we were able sit in a lounge and have a chat. We had been in King's head the music kept getting louder. Nothing has changed since the last time I stayed here. One member of staff was still there since I last saw him 8 years ago.

It was much better than the photos on the website. Good value and very accommodating. They were able to securely store our bikes. The room was very hot and unfortunately the windows didn't open but fans were already in the room. Breakfast was plentiful and very tasty

We arrived and missed the car park as it's only signposted by a little arrow on the side of the building. So we drove around again as it's a one way street. I imagine the Car park can be quite tight at times. Upon arrival, my first impression is that we have travelled back in time to the 70s... imagine going to your nans house and you won't be far off... We were given keys to our room and it was just ok. Again very dated. Not sure if that was the whole theme of the hotel. The cleanliness wasn't up to scratch with a dirty floor and a spider in the corner of the bathroom. There was an empty hand wash container in there which needed changing. The shower had 2 settings, hot and hotter. The mattress was too soft for us. On The stairs up to our room, someone had left a note saying they would never use the bathroom here as it is filthy...eek. The hotel has a bar with a selection of drinks. We sat outside during our stay as it was glorious weather and a warm evening. They also serve breakfast, and I asked for poached eggs on toast, and was given a plate with 2 poached eggs and a rack of toast in those tray things you get at bed and breakfasts. The eggs were nice and the toast.... But unfortunately my partner who had the full breakfast, couldn't really eat much. It was like it was all deep fried... The sausage was over cooked, the bacon was tough, the black pudding was just oozing oil. The beans weren't too bad though. Other people we stayed with also thought it was all deep fried. Location wise it's perfect. Overall. I think it needs a good clean and revamp or modernization...unless they like to give off the Nana's house vibes.... Our room was just ok, but I won't be back again, sorry
