The hotel was in need of a facelift, it was tired in a lot of places and we felt given this, it was very overpriced. We didn’t know about the refurbishment when we booked so I see now that is going to happen and will hopefully improve things but it obviously didn’t help our stay. This should have been made clear on the website (which it now is but I don’t know when this was added). We had to change our room as it was up extremely steep stairs (with no handrail on the top section) which we feel were unsafe for our 18 month old son. The room was also very cold. Our new room was extremely hot (without any radiators on) and was hard to cool down so we slept poorly. We were told there wasn’t anything that could be done about the temperature of either room as it was down to radiators and it being an old house. The outside facilities for children were very worn and used (the outside huts) which were disappointing. The pool area was looking run down and was cold, our son’s lips went blue in the pool! We did report this to reception but were told others hadn’t complained. My massage was very poor. The therapist had freezing cold hands, never asked if the pressure was ok and I had to ask several times for it to be firmer as it was more like being stroked! Really disappointing. I was not asked if the massage was ok at the end either (and it was about 10 mins short too). The food choice was pretty limited, the soup, pie and fish of the day were basically the same the 4 nights we were there and no new dishes added. The food was average in taste and fairly expensive. There was only one larger on offer until the last day we were there when they finally got an additional choice in. They had run out of rose wine too. We had to wait a long time to order a drink in the evenings and staff were hard to find. Overall we were very disappointed in our stay and felt a lot more could have been done to improve things, instead it felt like the hotel and staff were just counting down to the refurb!
