"Am See seems to be in the middle of nowhere. Located in Uferstrasse in Hard am Bodensee, there are no other hotels nearby. But – it’s a short walk to the lake Bodensee (or Constance) which has a fine lake promenade. We walked at around 8:45 pm and there were still other lake strollers and bench sitters around. A walk in the reverse direction takes you to the main road where the bus passes, and where several restaurants are located. Actually, right beside the hotel is a restaurant - we presume they're partners with the Am See. The reception staff are very friendly and obviously committed to their work. The rooms are huge and very modern. There is a two-seater sofa, a work desk with a bench chair, and a one seater cushioned chair. There is a tiny balcony with table and two chairs but unfortunately, we didn't have time to enjoy it. One wall had floor to ceiling glass windows (with the glass door that leads to the balcony). At breakfast, food variety was very good. And they kept offering additional new snacks from the kitchen to the guests!"

"These are nice people but the room was austere and lacked simple amenities. The internet connection in the room was awful. The safe did not work. The beds were like sleeping on hardwood. The bath towels were thread bare and fitting for a cheap gym. The chair to the desk was a hard wood cube. Requests for a luggage rack, a bucket of ice, and a kettle were ignored. For €360 a night I would not recommend it. This is what I would expect for €150."

"There are many things that were outstanding about my stay here. The sauna facilities are the best I have ever experienced and they were truly luxurious. I used them every day. I enjoyed the quality and selection of food. There was a large choice, presented beautifully. My renovated room was a true haven, I was genuinely lost for words when I walked in - it was so much better than I had expected, including the bathroom and all the amenities provided. The location for skiers is fantastic, with the chair lift less than 100 steps from the hotel entrance - I skied to Rendl and back, a proper adventure. The gym was good, as was the main bar area with a great drink selection. Other reviewers have expressed some disappointment with the service and rapport of waiting staff in the dining area, which I understand. I sometimes felt forgotten / ignored. I also felt I was made to feel a bit awkward as a solo traveller on occasion. In other words I didn’t always feel welcomed or looked after, but accept that some of this might be cultural difference. One exception was Antonio who was always charming, happy and welcoming."
