WOW what an amazing place! We stayed for only one night during a road trip around Devon and Cornwall. It is very remote, at the bottom of a deep valley by a rocky river and surrounded by steep hills and trees. The scenery here is amazing, great place to stay for walking holidays and sightseeing Exmoor, Devon and Somerset. The pub is gorgeous, proper old English. lots of history, great food and drinks, excellent service, very friendly, very clean and comfortable and you can have a drink by the river, its stunning! Very recommended and we will definitely come back here for a longer stay!

This is a gem of a place hidden away in a valley within the Exmoor National Park. We were made welcome by James from the minute we arrived until we departed after two nights. Well positioned across the river from some well marked National Trust walking routes this is a fantastic place to be based from. Food was great with plenty to eat and the breakfasts were awesome. Highly recommended

It was a well needed escape and the Rockford Arms was a perfect place to be. We were warmly welcomed by James who took us to our room. I was very pleased that there were gluten free food options as I hadn’t rewarded them. It was a truly amazing place, the setting was stunning, the rooms clean and welcoming, the bar and food was notable. Good home cooked food- small menu but that meant quality of produce and preparation was spot on. We ate there on both nights and were impressed with what we had. The Inn is opposite a number of clearly marked National Trust walking routes so ideally placed for a long walk and a rewarding pint on your return!

Great small hotel right next to river with access to walks and moors. Very friendly with welcoming staff and fantastic food. Rooms small but very comfortable. Parking available but choose the road in from the west, the road from the east is a cart track.

Just got home from a 3 night stay in this charming olde worlde inn. When we arrived we were greeted by a very funny man who made us laugh and showed us to our room and booked us a table for dinner. Our room was quite small but beautifully clean and very cosy with a lovely view of the river. We had a few issues with the bathroom. The shower wasn't very powerful unless you wanted it scolding hot so we used the bath instead and the toilet seat was loose and the seal kept falling off the bottom of the bath screen but once again everything was beautifully clean. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice. We also had an evening meal on our first night here which was lovely and the service was super quick. All the staff were really friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Great stay. Fishing break. Ideally located for the river (Trout day ticket £3.50 from Barbrook Filling Station 10 min drive away). Handy parking next to the pub. Room 4 was very clean and comfortable. Food was excellent, Pie and Chips spot on, superb Sticky Toffee pudding and custard, great breakfast (you can tell a quality sausage and bacon). Can recommend the Salcombe Pale Ale. Love the internal look of the Inn, these style of pubs are a treasure to be kept and looked after, you’re in for a treat if you’re a fan of the artist Mick Cawston (as I am) as they have a lot of his works on the walls. Friendly staff. Lots of great walks from the pub, think would be lovely in the autumn with the colours, and a fire going.
