Excelsior Planet

This was our second year staying and it has rapidly become one of my favourite weeks of the entire year. All the staff at the hotel are wonderful at making you feel welcome and ensuring you enjoy your stay but particular thanks to Michaeli, Ricardo and the all chefs for so brilliantly adapting menus to cater for my son’s dairy allergy. If you want to get in a week of skiing in the Easter holidays then I would not hesitate to recommend Cervinia and the Excelsior. The ski area is big enough to spend a week exploring and is so high that the snow is still plentiful this late. There is also the option to ski over to Zermatt. The hotel is well placed for the lifts and there is a free minivan to the main gondola as well. For after skiing there is a small wellness spa and a large sitting room with a roaring fire. In the evening the food is wonderful with fresh menu every day. Cannot wait to return next year.

Just got back from fabulous week in Cervinia at Hotel Excelsior Planet. The staff are so friendly, attentive and helpful and you really feel like you're part of a big family. Several people we spoke to had been coming year after year. We had a Junior Suite, Sunny side - huge amount of space/storage/living room/bathroom with bath/shower/TV/kettle/balcony/big fluffy bathrobes & slippers - very comfortable. It seemed that the towels were changed (unnecessarily) twice a day. Loved having the spa in the basement. We booked massages on the last day - wonderful. We went to the wine tasting afternoon - so interesting and Ricardo is such a knowledgable sommelier and made the session fun too. We tried seven different wines from all over Italy, accompanied by delicious selection of cheeses and hams. We could see why the hotel prides itself on its restaurant. The staff are just lovely and the food incredible. There was so much of it and so much choice. We often felt guilty that we couldn't finish all the courses. Maybe they could be a little smaller? There is a free minibus service to and from the main gondola, heading up to Plan Maison and a boot/ski room in the basement. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel and hope we will be able to return next year.

What a fantastic hotel. We booked via Crystal and chose based on the reviews and we were not disappointed. Perfect location, at the top of town just a minute or two's walk around the corner to the Cretaz chairlift. We were straight into our 1st floor junior suite after check-in and found the two single beds we had requested on the phone the week before. Room was very clean, plenty of storage space and had a great view of Monte Cervino (Matterhorn !) and the slopes. We had a small balcony, large TV with several British channels, a kettle and cups, a fridge and a sofa. Bathroom has a lovely large shower, toilet, bidet and sink. The maid came in twice a day to tidy up, make the beds, fold everything neatly and change the towels. Bootroom in the basement with lockers for boots and racks for skis. The food was great. A good selection at breakfast where you could fill yourself right up for a day's skiing ... a choice of cereals, bread, pastries, juices and cooked breakfast items (bacon, sausages, scrambled egg, etc.) .. though had to ask for ketchup everyday and a fried egg option would have been nice, but that is being picky. The evening meal was amazing. A menu with a starter and then a choice of four first course and four mains (we particularly loved the Garronese beef), and then the desert bar piled high with many choices ... a pity we were so full of mains ! There was also a salad bar. We had a nice table next to a lovely Austrian couple and a small group from Swansea .. .hello to all ! As many others have said, the staff are amazing, always helpful. A special mention for Francesco and Jasmine, our main restaurant attendants who were very friendly and attentive and happy to chat as time allowed. The ladies on reception were always very helpful .. especially when we found ourselves stuck in Valtournenche when they arranged for Rolando to come and collect us. A big thankyou to ALL of the staff. If and when we come back to Cervinia we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Diolch yn fawr.

Absolutely top marks. The hotel has the best of both worlds, family run but an incredibly well oiled machine. The reception staff could not be more helpful, housekeeping is great, I used the spa twice and both treatments were excellent. As for the Chef and his team and all the waiting staff in the restaurant, absolutely top class. Every menu and meal was made with much thought, imagination, love and care. I looked forward to every visit. As a solo traveller, I never felt overlooked or abandoned in the restaurant, service was impeccable. The hotel has a perfect location, you can see the starter slopes from the bedroom window. I was lucky enough to stay in one of the new rooms, The Matterhorn. One final mention to Francesco for his to die for cocktails. I thought all the prices were extremely reasonable too for the quality. I highly recommend this hotel to any discerning traveller. Oh, cromecast worked a treat too.

Excellent service from start to end. Friendly, helpful staff at the reception, and in the restaurant the delightful and energetic Martina and Pepe made our week of fine dining fun and enjoyable with their attentive and congenial service. The food was astounding every night - amazing flavours and clever presentation. The mezzanine mini suite was comfortable, with a great shower, big bath and good beds. Masses of storage too, and an amazing view to greet every morning. The ski room was great too, with our own locker allocated. We’d have no hesitation returning.

Perfect location hotel for ski wlth a perfect dinner menus.. All staff are super friendly.. hotel situated 200 meters to main slopes and plenty of restaurants and bars in walking distance .. We highly recommend to get dinner at hotel.. Planet will be our new location for winter holidays

Stayed here with friends for our annual skiing holiday and definitely made the right choice. First and foremost, it`s location to the lifts is superb, nothing more to add on that point really. The ski cellar / boot room is on the lower ground floor, access to street level is by a rather quirky lift. Our room was directly facing the Matterhorn, what a view to wake up to every morning. Hotel and rooms are very clean, great all round service. The restaurant is superb, comprehensive choice at breakfast and wonderful food at dinner with an excellent wine list as well. Overall, a great stay and would definitely return.

We really loved this hotel. Hotel really ticks all the boxes for location and facilities…. But what really stands out is how exceptionally the staff looked after us and the food ! Everyone was so welcoming, warm and friendly, it made us feel very relaxed and at home. The food and wine were unbelievably good. We stayed half board and enjoyed every single breakfast and dinner. What made a particular difference to us was how brilliantly the staff adapted the menu for our son who is severely allergic to milk. We were given full confidence that they took the allergy very seriously and we were able to relax and enjoy mealtimes which is normally hard to do when eating out. Further, the chef created specially adapted milk free dishes - including the most delicious special deserts giving him the best dining experience of his life. Hugest thanks to Michaeli, Riccardo and all of the team for giving us all an unforgettable week - we’ll be back. Highly highly recommend.

After 21 visits over 18 years, I am running out of superlatives to describe this hotel. This year, we made two visits, one with our American family in February and later as a couple in March. The warmth of the welcome from all the staff, combined with the amazing cuisine never ceases to amaze me. On both visits, we stayed in a very spacious and recently refurbished junior suite with a view of the Matterhorn. The skiing convenience is a big advantage. The Cretaz lifts are less than 100m while the hotel offers a free shuttle to the gondola, with its direct access to Plan Maison, at the bottom of the village. Then there is the spa area (the booking system via reception avoids overcrowding) and a comfortable lounge, complete with log fire and friendly bar service. The balance of professionalism and friendliness really sets this hotel apart. For a skiing holiday, it is the perfect place to stay.
