Appleby Manor Hotel & Garden Spa

We booked a one night stay at the last minute at a very reasonable rate. Our room was on the front of the house overlooking Appleby Town Centre. We received a fairly cursory welcome at reception but all other staff thereafter were friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable with high quality Egyptian cotton bed linen. We booked in for evening meal which again was good quality. The hotel was busy and it was nice to chat to other guests in the lounge late evening. Yes the hotel is looking a bit tired in places but this did not distract from an enjoyable stay. We would come again

Beautiful building, excellent, friendly and professional staff with the hotel set in stunning grounds with breathtaking scenery. Highly recommended. Delicious food and large comfortable garden room with patio to beautiful views. Luxurious spa facilities.

Food was good, watch what wine they give you as they gave the most expensive bottle despite me pointing to one in the menu , when questioned the receptionist couldn’t prove anything and just looked down at me , spa is small but clean , changing rooms are small only 2 showers so if all sessions in spa end at same time a bit busy , treatment was good but not luxury as advertised! Robes in spa are small thin cotton robes so if larger person do feel exposed. Expensive for what it is .. wouldn’t say was luxury 4 star

We booked an indulgent spa day for 3. We arrived at 10 am, straight to the treatment rooms for two of us, the other left in the spa. Massage was ok but facial without any interaction about skin or what we felt we needed. The spa is small and it was very busy. Not enough seats for people as zero degrees outside so you couldn’t sit there, no alternative except to be in the water or one of the rooms. Lunch at 1pm. By the time that was served and the food was ok but nothing to write home about. It wasn’t worth getting back into the pool. Changing rooms have two showers and banks of lockers situated around a small bench. Eight people trying to get changed was more like a community swimming baths than a luxury spa. Staff seemed abrupt and not particularly bothered about clients. Restaurant staff were very pleasant. Having done a few spa days we really wouldn’t recommend or return.

Stayed for one night as a birthday treat. We arrived and were told we had a room upgrade! It was lovely and spacious with a small seating area and table, the bed was huge, it was like i was sleeping in a separate postcode from my husband 😆 It was lovely and clean so no issues. We dined in the Bistro and the food was beautiful, can't fault it at all! Breakfast was great too with lots of choice. We used the spa area, this was really nice, very clean and tidy, the lockers and changing room clean and tidy too. All in all a great stay.

This was a brilliant weekend away. This was the first time that we had stayed here too. Upon arrival, we were upgraded to a suite with no extra cost. The room was huge with excellent views across the gardens and valley and was also very clean. The food was very nice and of a high quality. We only used the bistro, however the food that came was exceptional and wasn't ridiculously priced unlike some places that we have been. Breakfast was great too!! I read some of the poor reviews before going, which did leave me sceptical, but I can honestly say, having just left yesterday, we are looking to book after new year 2026!! The spa and treatments were also brilliant. As it was quiet (only 4 others were in the spa) we had full access to every pool and saunas etc. As the spa here is quite modern and new, it is very well maintained and relaxing. Any reviews of those calling this place old and dated etc, ignore them. The charm of the place along with the modern spa is perfect. It was obviously a quiet weekend when we went, however the only potential negative would be if it was really busy, the spa section is not massive so could get crowded, but I am sure they wont let that happen with 2 hour slots for residents. Staff were also great, no issues at all there. As stated above, we will be booking for the same time next year after the hectic Christmas and new year rush. This was so relaxing and ideal for us.
