We arrived to check in my 89 year old Grandmother and they complained that we didn’t arrive sooner (it was 5pm) because the staff wanted to go home - no one was in the hotel or going to be on site all night. Literally no staff on site so my grandma understandably was uncomfortable staying alone in a remote location (that smelled of sewage and must). The cook was rude and said he was leaving so she couldn’t have dinner later so we said we would rather take my Grandmother somewhere she would have staff on site. They refused to refund but said we could use that night at a future date but wouldn’t send us any details about that… so we called to use our paid night 7 months later and they said it expired and refused to honour it. No wonder the hotel was empty I can’t imagine anyone would book again after rude staff and smelly accomodation. I took to social media to confront them on this and instead of replying they blocked me. Truly a terrible experience would recommend staying literally anywhere. Appalling. -1 / 10

Arrived to check in my partner's 89 year old grandmother only to receive a barrage of barking of dogs, and a chef leaning on the side of the check in desk with a tea towel over his shoulder. He grunted in an incredulously dulcet tone: "been trying to get hold of you to see if you're eating here or not". The man was stand-offish at best, clearly bored and wanting to go home. Furthermore, he was calling a landline in Dorset when we clearly would have left hours ago. Apropos of that, he acted like we were supposed to confirm that prior to arrival anyway! Nobody else in the hotel except the chap on reception. Our 89 year old guest rightly didn't feel comfortable there and so we left, not before having to pay for one of the two nights. While it was offered that we could reuse the other night at a later date, this was only within the next six months and as such had lapsed by the time we could go again. I Imagine it's fine in the Summer but don't go any other time, you'll get a welcome as musty as the smell of the building. Principle gripe with the chef - man looked like he could barely pick his knuckles off the ground.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, the setting was beautiful. The hotel was a bit dated and the room got very warm at night. The shower in room 10 was great. More sockets for charging were needed as there was only one, it would have been very difficult if I had been with my husband. The breakfast was lovely and they cooked what you wanted. It was a great location for me as my daughter was graduating from the university and it was only 10 minutes up the road. I only stayed 1 night but would loved to have spent another couple of nights.

A gift voucher from our daughter and family for afternoon tea, and what a treat we had! Choice of sitting inside or out on their lovely Sundeck, which we chose, as the weather was beautiful. Comfortable with stunning views. We were given choices of Tea or coffee. Fresh handmade sandwiches, lovely, homemade cakes, including meringues with fresh cream, strawberries and raspberries, fruit cake, and brownies, and homemade fairings! And the lightest tasting scones we've tried with plenty of strawberry jam and clotted cream! More than enough for my husband and I, but not wasted. We were offered anything left to be carefully wrapped up to take home ! (Finished in the evening!😋) Afterwards, we walked around their well maintained and kept gardens, surrounded by mature trees and shrubs, in beautiful lawns, with stunning views. Well recommended and deserves a 5 star plus! Many thanks, and we will come again.

Sadly we were very disappointed with the cream tea here. At £10 ahead the scones were so small we barely had a few mouthfuls and they were gone. Loads of cream and jam wasted as not enough decent size scones to put it on. Very bad value and for the extra pence it would be to make a decent scone seems crazy and then all the cream and jam gone to waste it was then money down the drain. I do not understand the reason behind this. The scones were lovely and staff could not have been nicer but not sure what the hotel are thinking. I would not recommend for a cream tea as very dissatisfying. The coffee was nice.

Wow, what an amazing evening we had at the Penmorvah Manor Hotel. We checked in for an evening of food, fun and dancing and were not disappointed. Exceptional venue, delicious food and attentive and charming staff. Our room for the night was well prepared, clean, warm and lacked nothing. I would thoroughly recommend a visit to this beautifully situated and well run hotel.
